Job summary

Plymouth-Canton Community School district in Michigan seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional–1 on 1 at Pioneer Middle School. This 35-hour-week position supports students with IEPs in the least restrictive environment and assists with health, behavior, and instructional tasks under the guidance of the special education teacher.

The role requires a high school diploma, strong organization, self-direction, and the ability to work with families and staff.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students and support personnel.
• Good organization skills.
• Ability to be self-directed.
• Ability to engage in problem identification and solving.
• Ability to maintain good rapport with staff/parents/students.
• Previous paraprofessional experience preferred.
• Experience with health-impairment students preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supports students with IEPs in the least restrictive environment.
• Assists the special education teacher and implements accommodations per IEPs.
• Supports plans developed by the special education team.
• Assists with health care, behavior and instructional programming.
• Manages behavioral and instructional logs and data collection.
• Supports goals and objectives for students.
• Operates equipment for instructional materials when applicable.
• Supervises students in lunchroom, halls, and outdoors as assigned.
• Occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs and provides first aid/medication support.
