Job summary

Mandarin Oriental in Fatih, Istanbul, seeks an Assistant Director of Engineering to lead maintenance, safety, and security operations across the resort. You will monitor HACCP and MOHG standards, supervise daily office duties, and coordinate with the Director of Engineering to keep guest facilities running at the highest level.

You will attend inspections, report actions to authorities, participate in emergency response activities, and uphold hotel policies.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and uphold Fire Life Health Safety Security and Sustainability standards and HACCP compliance.
• Assist in monitoring and maintaining MOHG health and safety audit readiness.
• Perform day-to-day office duties and general administration within the Engineering department.
• Attend and report to Director of Engineering on actions from local authority inspections.
• Serve as a senior member of the Resort's emergency response team as Assistant Director of Engineering.
• Uphold the Resort's security instructions and MOHG policies.
• Ensure Engineering and Hotel policies and procedures are followed at all times.
• Report urgent matters or irregularities to the Director of Engineering immediately.
• Oversee daily inventory of department tools and equipment before each shift.
• Support Pillars of Legendary Quality Experiences to ensure guest satisfaction and mission achievement.
• Plan and organize systems to achieve productivity and high levels of service.
• Provide quality control, training, and feedback to staff to maintain standards.
• Continuously seek ideas for product improvements to meet guest and colleague demands.
• Conduct regular checks of all areas within the resort and ensure maintenance standards are met.
• Execute PMs for all hotel aspects including life safety equipment, ensuring timely task completion.
• Review department logs and events daily to ensure maintenance requests are completed and followed up on.
• Respond to work requests from guests or senior management within a given time, recording actions taken.
• Assign maintenance requests to trades, generate reports on clean-up rates and progress.
• Coordinate weekly tours of kitchens, restaurants, bars, function rooms, and outdoor areas to maintain health, safety, and maintenance standards.
• Meet daily with Director of Engineering and Shift Engineers to ensure continuous operation of the engineering department.
• Coordinate with Housekeeping to schedule rooms out of service for maintenance.
• Act as head of department in the Director of Engineering's absence.
• Attend fire and emergency procedures training as instructed by hotel management.
• Maintain two-way communications with staff through daily meetings and open forums.
• Review and prepare the engineering duty shift schedule.
• Track attendance and sickness records of engineering colleagues weekly.
• Enforce discipline per hotel and MOHG policies and provide direction for performance and development.
• Identify training needs with Learning & Development to deliver plans.
• Encourage colleague suggestions and two-way communication.
• Carry out any reasonable request from your manager.

Job description

• To ensure that the Fire Life Health Safety Security and Sustainability company standards and HACCP Standards are maintained and carried out. They must be monitored regularly to assist in scoring 100% on the MOHG health and safety audit.
• Encourages the highest possible standard of environmental management.
• To perform any other duties and responsibilities as required by the Director of Engineering.
• Ensure the day-to-day operation of the departments office duties and general administration is completed competently and in a given time.
• Attend and report to Director of Engineering any actions or action plans that may arise from inspections by the local authorities.
• As Assistant Director of Engineering, this position dictates you becoming a senior member of the Resort's emergency response team.
• To uphold the Resort's security instructions and regulations in accordance with Hotel and Company policy and procedures.
• To ensure that the Engineering Departments and Hotels policy and Procedures are followed at all times.
• Report any urgent matters or irregularities to the Director of Engineering immediately.
• To ensure the daily inventory of department tools and equipment is completed prior to completion of each shift.

• To ensure through effective planning and organizing of systems and procedures, productivity, efficiency and consistent, high level of service is achieved.

• Through continuously searching for new ideas and product improvements guests and colleagues’ demands are met.
• To ensure through continuous physical checking of all areas within the resort and all aspects of the Engineering services, implementation of standard procedures to achieve the highest standard of maintenance.
• Implement the PM’s for all aspects of the hotel (including life safety equipment), and ensure tasks are completed competently and within a given time.
• Carry out daily review of the department's logbooks, record sheets and daily of events to ensure all maintenance requests have been completed and any outstanding items have a next day follow up response.
• Ensure that any work requests that come from hotel's guests or senior management are responded to within a given time. All such requests are to be recorded along with what action is taken.
• To assign the maintenance requests from other departments to the relevant maintenance trades and ensure these requests are completed competently and within time. Also, to formulate a monthly reporting form, highlighting the engineering departments "clear up rate" and progress made on maintenance requests.
• With the assistance of the Director of Engineering and relevant H.O.D. carry out weekly tours of kitchens, restaurants, bars and function rooms and outdoor areas to ensure the highest standard of health and safety and maintenance is constantly achieved.
• To meet with the Director of Engineering and Shift Engineers on daily bases to ensure the continuity in the operation of the engineering department is maintained at all times.
• Coordinate with Housekeeping Department a program for taking rooms out of service for perfect room maintenance.
• To assume the role of head of department in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
• Attend fire and emergency procedures training as instructed by hotel management.
• Maintain the link of two-way communications between management and colleagues by daily departmental operations meetings, individual counseling and open forum sessions.
• Review and prepare the engineering duty shift schedule.
• To carry out a weekly review and report of the engineering colleague attendance and sickness record.
• To enforce discipline on the engineering colleagues and take any corrective action in accordance with the hotel's and MOHG policy and procedures.
• To assist the Director of Engineering in Company's appraisal system (Performance Management and Development System PROFILE) for monitoring staff performance and development by providing direction and feedback to staff in adhering to service procedure.
• In conjunction with the Learning & Development Manager, to identify training needs of the department and ensure training plans are created and delivered.
• To encourage colleague suggestion program and other effective methods of two-way communication management by participation.
• To carry out any reasonable request as directed by your manager.
