Job summary

ByteDance is building the next generation of conversational AI for Global E-commerce. The role focuses on post-training, agent harness, evaluation, and a self-evolving data flywheel with scalable, multilingual capabilities.

You will lead technical direction, own multi-quarter roadmaps, and drive cross-team alignment across foundation-model, infra, and product teams. The position emphasizes hands-on coding, design docs, and mentoring ICs.

Qualifications

• BS / MS / PhD in CS, AI, Mathematics, or related quantitative field.
• Hands-on experience in ML / NLP / applied DL.
• Top PhDs with strong publication record may qualify at 4 years.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction.
• Own a multi-quarter roadmap across post-training, agent harness, evaluation, and data flywheel.
• Translate north-star metrics into 2–3 high-ROI bets per quarter and ship them.
• Hire and develop 1–3 strong ICs and raise the median technical bar through design reviews.
• Stay in the loop with the model and write core abstractions and design docs.
• Drive cross-team alignment with foundation-model, infra, product, and algorithm teams.
• Build per-turn tracing, tool-call analytics, and failure-mode taxonomies for regression diagnosis.
