Job summary

SL Metals Pte Ltd in Singapore seeks an Import/Export Coordinator to oversee end-to-end import operations, including shipment coordination, document verification, and LC negotiations. The role requires fluency in Chinese and strong ERP experience, with daily liaison to freight forwarders, banks, and internal teams.

You will ensure accurate receiving, storage, and ERP entries, monitor shipment status, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience in shipping function in manufacturing/distribution environment.
  • ERP experience advantageous.
  • Strong import/export knowledge and regulatory understanding.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in Chinese; other languages a plus.
  • Willing to work in Tuas area (accessible via MRT).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee import operations, including shipment coordination and documentation.
  • Prepare and verify import shipping documents (invoice, packing list, delivery order, certificate of origin).
  • Liaise with freight forwarders on shipment booking and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure timely receipt of shipping documents and certificates.
  • Coordinate with banks on LC negotiation and document checking.
  • Liaise with insurance agent on coverage.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and internal departments for receiving and storage.
  • Perform goods receiving and ERP updates with proper documentation.
  • Monitor shipment status and provide updates to stakeholders.
  • Advise sales and procurement on freight charges and arrangements.
  • Monitor shipping costs and support cost-saving initiatives.
  • Prepare and maintain shipping/import reports for management.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for export documentation when required.

Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and oversee import operations, including shipment coordination and documentation

  • Prepare and verify import shipping documents (invoice, packing list, delivery order, certificate of origin, etc.)

  • Liaise with freight forwarders on shipment booking, cargo arrangement, and delivery schedules

  • Ensure timely receipt of shipping documents such as bill of lading, fumigation certificate, customs declaration, and related certificates

  • Coordinate with banks on Letter of Credit (LC) negotiation, document checking, and compliance requirements; request amendments when necessary

  • Liaise with insurance agent on insurance coverage

  • Coordinate with warehouse and internal departments to ensure smooth receiving, storage, and delivery processes

  • Perform goods receiving and ensure accurate ERP system updates with proper documentation

  • Monitor shipment status and provide timely updates to internal stakeholders

  • Advise sales and procurement teams on freight charges and shipment arrangements

  • Monitor shipping costs and support cost-saving initiatives without compromising service quality

  • Prepare and maintain shipping/import reports for management review

  • Provide ad-hoc support for export documentation and shipment arrangements when required

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and experience:
  • At leastBachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in shipping function, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment.

  • Proficiency in using ERP systems will be an added advantage.

  • Strong understanding of import/export regulations and customs procedures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.

  • Fluency in Chinese to effectively communicate with Chinese-speaking clients; proficiency in other languages is a plus.

  • Willing to work in Tuas area (accessible via MRT).
