Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related construction discipline
• Professional qualification as a Quantity Surveyor or equivalent
• 8–10 years of professional quantity surveying experience
• Experience in cost planning, cost control, and financial management on medium to large-scale construction projects
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts
• Experience in contract administration, including claims management and dispute resolution
• Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office applications
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with stakeholder management
• Leadership experience with ability to mentor team members
• Knowledge of Singapore market would be advantageous

Responsibilities

• Managing and controlling project costs through detailed cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting
• Preparing and submitting variation orders, claims, and financial reports
• Conducting detailed quantity takeoffs and BOQ preparation for tender and contract administration
• Administering contracts including monitoring obligations, reviewing payment certificates, and disputes
• Liaising with clients, contractors, architects, and engineers to resolve commercial issues
• Conducting valuations of completed works and certifying payment claims
• Monitoring project expenditure and identifying cost-saving opportunities
• Mentoring and supervising junior quantity surveyors
• Preparing cost reports, financial statements, and project documentation for senior management
• Ensuring compliance with contractual terms, industry standards, and regulatory requirements

About the role

Main-contractor is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a full-time basis. Based in the Tai Seng North-East Region, this is a strategic position that plays a critical role in our contracts management operations within the construction industry. As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for overseeing cost control, contract administration, and financial management across our construction projects. This role is instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered within budget whilst maintaining the highest standards of contractual compliance and professional practice.

Key responsibilities

• Managing and controlling project costs through detailed cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting throughout all project phases

• Preparing and submitting variation orders, claims, and financial reports to ensure accurate project financial reporting

• Conducting detailed quantity takeoffs and bill of quantities preparation for tender purposes and contract administration

• Administering construction contracts including monitoring contractual obligations, reviewing payment certificates, and managing contractual disputes

• Liaising with clients, contractors, architects, and engineers to resolve commercial and contractual issues

• Conducting valuations of completed works and certifying payment claims in accordance with contract terms

• Monitoring project expenditure and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety standards

• Mentoring and supervising junior quantity surveyors and supporting their professional development

• Preparing comprehensive cost reports, financial statements, and project documentation for senior management

• Ensuring compliance with contractual terms, industry standards, and regulatory requirements

What we're looking for

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related construction discipline from a recognised institution

• Professional qualification as a Quantity Surveyor or equivalent recognised certification within the construction industry

• Minimum 8-10 years of professional quantity surveying experience, with substantial experience in contracts management

• Proven expertise in cost planning, cost control, and financial management on medium to large-scale construction projects

• Strong knowledge of construction contracts

• Demonstrated experience in contract administration, including claims management and dispute resolution

• Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office applications

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail

• Leadership experience with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members

• Knowledge of construction practices and industry standards relevant to the Singapore market would be advantageous
