Job summary

Grab, a leading Southeast Asia superapp, seeks a Senior Principal Data Scientist to lead automated marketplace optimization. You will advance data and ML use to automate pricing, dispatch, and supply management decisions at scale from Grab's One-North Singapore office.

The role blends reinforcement learning, large language models, and production systems, serving millions of users and driver-partners across the region.

Qualifications

• PhD-level expertise in ML/RL and production systems.
• Strong foundation in RL fundamentals, including MDPs and reward design.
• Experience building production ML/RL systems with online learning or simulation-based optimization.
• Experience with world models / sequential modelling (latent models, transformers).
• Hands-on experience fine-tuning large language models in production (supervised fine-tuning, RLHF/DPO/GRPO).
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow).
• Experience with distributed training across GPUs/nodes (DeepSpeed, FSDP, Megatron-LM).
• Ability to translate ambiguous problems into ML/RL tasks and define success criteria.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end RL systems optimizing pricing, dispatch, and supply repositioning.
• Develop latent world models of supply-demand and marketplace state representations.
• Build marketplace-wide optimisation across pricing, dispatching, and supply repositioning.
• Create policy evaluation and monitoring for safe deployment of new policies.
• Fine-tune LLMs for prediction, reasoning and simulation in marketplace apps.
• Collaborate with data and backend teams to deploy RL/LLM in production.
