Job summary

Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science or Advanced Certificate in Pharmacy Support or foreign degree without registration.
• Minimum 4–5 years of Pharmacy Technician experience.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

Assists pharmacist in managing operations and pharmacy technicians in the assigned section.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist the pharmacist in the processing of medication orders for inpatient and outpatient dispensing which includes typing, packing, labelling and distribution of drug supplies to the wards and other hospital departments.

1. Perform billing functions and ensures that all outstanding bills are recovered. This includes answering billing and subsidy enquiries.

1. Responsible for training of new staff with regards to cashiering and billing functions.

1. Dispense medicines and provide patient education under the supervision of a pharmacist.

1. Ensure that policies and procedures pertaining to Good Dispensing Practice are adhered to, and are in line with legal requirements.

1. Assist in providing quality customer service.

1. Monitor all transactions pertaining to stock movements and billing to ensure timely record keeping using the relevant computer systems.

1. Review stockholding situation and par level regularly to ensure effective control of inventory.

1. To organise the annual stocktake session such as manpower needed, preparation of count sheet and stock preparation.

1. Able to investigate and resolve any stock discrepancy.

1. Plan the roster and manpower for routine cleaning and upkeeping of the space and equipment.

1. Support the hospital by participating actively in the various activities organized by the hospital. Activities include QC, community projects, staff welfare and recreational activities and etc.

1. Assist supervisors with the collation of feedback and gives recommendations for the progression of subordinates.

1. Conduct performance appraisal of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy service associate/ assistants.

1. Coordinate and invigilate written assessments for new or junior staff and attachment students.

1. Liaise with compounding laboratory to place and confirm our extemporaneous and sterile preparation orders.

1. Responsible for ensuring adequate staffing on the floor by overseeing the manpower allocation table of each section to ensure smooth flow of day to day routine work.

1. Orientate and train new staff assigned to the section.

1. Act as buddies to the newcomers.

1. Other duties as directed by the supervisors.

SPECIALISED ROLES/ FUNCTIONS

1. Assist Medication Safety In-Charge by ensuring timely data collection and collation of error trending reports. Assist to investigate medication errors. Implement and monitor medication safety process improvement initiatives.

1. Ensure that medication repackaging standard and quality checks are performed in accordance of repackaging standards.

1. Assist the Unit Dose Packaging Pharmacy In-Charge in ensuring the smooth running of UDP operations, including manpower allocation, production job planning, handling enquiries from wards and perform simple troubleshooting of the automation machines.

1. Liaise with external vendors and procurement to ensure smooth running of outsourcing activities.

1. Assist the pharmacist in processing medication orders for sterile and extemporaneous preparations according to USP guidelines.

1. Ensure maintenance, sanitation and organization of clean room and related equipment according to policies and procedures.

1. Assist Section IC in planning and implementing IT projects.

1. Coordinate and conduct training on IT systems and automation at department level.

1. Handle and respond to IT issues reported and CR raised.

1. Give staff feedback and peer review.

1. Perform simple data extraction request for operation purposes / dashboard.

Education / Training / Experience

1. Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science OR Advanced Certificate Course in Pharmacy Support (Pharmacy Technician) OR Foreign Pharmacy Degree (non-registrable with SPC)

1. Has a minimum of 4-5 years of working experience as a Pharmacy Technician
