Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5–7 years in building construction with main contractors.
• Proficient in design software and MS Office.
• Strong knowledge of local codes and safety standards.
• Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered status is a plus.
• Experience with large-scale commercial/industrial projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

A Senior Engineer responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle, ensuring delivery on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards. Experienced in managing site operations, resolving complex technical challenges, leading junior engineers, and coordinating effectively with clients, consultants, and subcontractors. Possesses strong expertise in building construction and leadership, with a focus on delivering projects to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency, including close follow-up with consultants on documentation and Method of Statement (MOS) for construction planning.

Job Responsibilities

1. Project Management

• Lead the planning, execution, and management of construction projects from initial stages through to completion, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
• Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to develop detailed project schedules, track progress, and implement corrective actions to meet deadlines.

2. Design and Planning

• Work with architects and engineers to review construction plans, ensuring designs are feasible and compliant with regulatory requirements.
• Conduct thorough feasibility studies and risk assessments to proactively identify potential challenges and provide innovative solutions as needed.

3. Quality Assurance

• Ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications through regular site inspections, monitoring construction activities, and addressing any non-compliance issues.
• Validate the integrity and compliance of materials and construction methods, ensuring adherence to local building codes and applicable regulations.

4. Technical Coordination

• Act as a primary liaison among subcontractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies to resolve technical issues, fostering seamless communication and collaboration.
• Facilitate effective coordination of site activities among all stakeholders to maintain smooth project operation.

5. Site Management

• Supervise day-to-day construction operations, ensuring on-time completion and adherence to budget constraints while maintaining exceptional quality and safety standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to site staff, ensuring that the work of subcontractors aligns with project objectives.

6. Safety Compliance

• Develop and enforce comprehensive site safety plans and protocols, working in tandem with safety personnel to foster a culture of safety within project teams.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and provide training to promote safe work practices among all involved.

7. Budget and Cost Management

• Monitor and analyse project expenditure, assisting in the preparation of budget forecasts to ensure financial objectives are met.
• Review contractor invoices and variation claims, verifying that the work completed complies with contractual requirements.

8. Reporting

• Prepare and submit detailed progress reports to the Project Manager, highlighting achievements, challenges, and critical issues impacting project success and timelines.
• Collaborate with HOD Engineering to provide project updates and support strategic decision-making.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Building Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in building construction, with substantial experience working for A1 Main Contractors in Singapore or similar markets.
• Proficient in using engineering design software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong knowledge of local building regulations, codes, and safety standards.
• Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities, with a proven record of effective teamwork and collaboration.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Professional certification from relevant engineering institutions (e.g., Professional Engineer PE, Chartered Engineer) is a plus.
• Experience managing large-scale commercial or industrial projects is a plus.
