Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design, preferably with precast systems.
• Proficiency in structural design software (STAAD/ETABS) and AutoCAD/BIM tools.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes/BS or local design codes and precast detailing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of precast structural systems for large-scale projects with safety and cost considerations.
• Plan and execute design activities aligned with project timelines and site progress.
• Prepare structural design calculations for precast elements and verify lifting/handling designs.

Job description

Role Summary:

The Senior Design Engineer leads the design of complex precast concrete systems, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and coordination across disciplines ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and production requirements. This role mentors Design Engineers and plays a key part in optimizing design for production and installation efficiency. This role involves close coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver accurate and buildable design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead the design of precast structural systems for large-scale projects, ensuring safety, durability, and cost effectiveness.
2. Plan and execute design activities in alignment with project timelines and site progress.
3. Prepare structural design calculations for precast elements such as walls, slabs, beams, columns etc. Work with PE to ensure safe lifting and handling of precast concrete components are properly designed.
4. Review and approved structural calculations and shop drawings prepared by design engineers and drafters/modellers.
5. Optimize precast designs for manufacturing, transport and installation efficiency.
6. Check and validate shop drawings for accuracy, constructibility and compliance with design intent.
7. Liaise with externals consultants (architects, C&S, M&E) to :
   * Identify and request missing or incomplete design inputs.
   * Detect and resolve discrepancies in design documentation
   * Understand construction sequencing to prioritize design deliverables
   * Modify and optimize designs based on project requirements, production capabilities and site constraints.
8. Collaborate with internal departments (production, planning, QA/QC) to ensure seamless integration of design with manufacturing and site requirements.
9. Provide sketches and technical guidance to BIM Modelers and drafters to develop layout and shop drawings, erection drawings and reinforcement detailing for precast concrete components (eg. beams, columns, wall panels, slabs, staircases etc.)
10. Ensure drawings comply with relevant codes, standards and client specifications.
11. Work with Main contractor to resolves any precast issues to develop Method of Statements (MoS) for any repair work required.
12. Mentor and guide Design Engineers and BIM Modelers in technical development and project execution.
13. Support the Technical Manager in developing design standards, templates and workflows.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Strong academic background in structural analysis and design.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in structural design, preferably with exposure to precast systems
• Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., STAAD, ETABS) and AutoCAD/BIM tools.
• Knowledge of relevant design codes (Eurocode, BS or local equivalents).
• Strong knowledge of precast detailing, production constraints and erection methods.
• Excellent leadership, coordination, good communication, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
