Job summary

HKM HR MANAGEMENT PTE. LTD. is seeking an Assistant Design Manager to lead the Design Engineers and BIM modelers in precast concrete projects at site. You will ensure design and detailing meet project specs, safety standards, and production needs.

You will liaise with customers and internal stakeholders, review shop drawings, coordinate with consultants, and guide the team to optimize designs within production constraints.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience in structural design, preferably with precast systems.
• Experience with design software such as STAAD, ETABS or MIDAS and AutoCAD/BIM tools.
• Knowledge of relevant design codes (Eurocode, BS or local equivalents).
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Technical Director to oversee workload distribution of the designers/engineers and modellers.
• Plan and execute design activities aligned with project timelines and site progress. Check and validate shop drawings for accuracy, constructibility, and compliance with design intent.
• Assist designers/engineers to liaise with external consultants (architects, C&S, M&E) to identify missing inputs, resolve discrepancies, and understand construction sequencing.
• Modify and optimize designs based on project requirements, production capabilities and site constraints; obtain approvals from clients and consultants.
• Provide sketches and technical guidance to designers/engineers and BIM modelers/drafters to develop layout and shop drawings, erection drawings and reinforcement detailing for precast components.
• Ensure drawings comply with relevant codes, standards and client specifications.
• Work with Main Contractor to resolve precast issues and develop Method of Statement for repairs.
• Collaborate with production, planning, QA/QC to ensure seamless integration of design with manufacturing and site requirements.

Job description

The Assistant Design Manager will need to oversee the Design Engineers to ensure design and detailing of precast concrete elements, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and production requirements.

Assistant Design Manager to also liaise with Customers and internal stakeholders to oversee the precast rectification works at project sites.

Key Responsibilities

• -Assist Technical Director to oversee the workload distribution of the designers/engineers and modellers
• - Plan and execute design activities in alignment with project timelines and site progress. Check and validate shop drawings for accuracy, constructibility, and compliance with design intent.
• - Assist designers/engineers to liaise with external consultants (architects, C&S, M&E) to:
  • Identify and request missing or incomplete design inputs.
  • Detect and resolve discrepancies in design documentation.
  • Understand construction sequencing to prioritize design deliverables.
  • Modify and optimize designs based on project requirements, production capabilities and site constraints
  • Obtain approvals for design outputs from clients and consultants.
• - Collaborate with internal departments (production, planning, QA/QC) to ensure seamless integration of design with manufacturing and site requirements.
• - Provide sketches and technical guidance to designers/engineers and BIM modelers/drafters to develop layout and shop drawings, erection drawinga and reinforcement detailing for precast concrete components (e.g., beams, columns, walls panels, slabs, staircases etc.).
• - Ensure drawings comply with relevant codes, standards and client specifications.
• - Work with Main Contractor to resolve any precast issues to develop Method of Statement (MoS) for any repair work required.

Qualifications & Skills

• * Bachelor Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• * Strong academic background in structural analysis and design.
• * 5-10 years of experience in structural design, preferably with exposure to precast systems.* Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., STAAD, ETABS or MIDAS) and AutoCAD/BIM tools.
• * Knowledge of relevant design codes (Eurocode, BS or local equivalents)
• * Good communication, problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
