Job summary

sankyu (singapore) pte ltd is seeking a Section Chief for sea freight operations in Singapore. You will coordinate imports/exports, supervise daily activities, and drive performance while ensuring quality and compliance across processes and KPIs.

You will lead a team, review staff performance, and optimize workflows, while negotiating rates and maintaining strong relationships with customers and suppliers to support service excellence and growth.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the shipping industry.
• Good knowledge of import and export ocean shipments.
• Knowledge of Letter of Credit documentation, Incoterms, Singapore shipping procedures, and freight forwarding.
• Knowledge of PortNet, TradeNet, and invoicing.
• Good interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
• Able to work as a team player, proactive, self-motivated, and possess a high sense of responsibility.
• Motivated with good planning and follow-up skills.
• Able to handle a high volume of workload in a fast-paced environment.
• Willing and able to work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily sea freight activities including import/export operations.
• Maintain and enhance core operational processes, records, quality documentation, and KPIs.
• Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to achieve operational efficiency and zero defects.
• Manage and resolve operational issues proactively, escalating to higher management only when necessary.
• Handle shipment claims in coordination with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Lead and support a team, providing guidance and ensuring efficient workflow.
• Prepare, review, and conduct staff performance appraisals.
• Foster a high-performance culture and team engagement.
• Build and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers to support service excellence and business growth.
• Negotiate rates and service terms with customers and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and customer standards; maintain Safety and Quality Manual.
• Ensure timely billing and posting of invoices; manage AR/AP performance; generate reports.
