Job summary

Direct Search Global is seeking a Sales Engineer for our client in Singapore’s marine sector. You will combine technical knowledge with commercial skills to develop new business, manage key accounts and deliver tailored solutions across the vessel lifecycle.

The role requires understanding marine equipment specifications, strong communication, and the ability to engage shipowners, managers and yards. Travel for field visits and industry events is expected.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Marine/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in technical sales or marine equipment sales.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
• Willing to travel for customer visits.

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow business with shipowners, managers, yards and marine companies.
• Identify new sales opportunities through market research, networking, customer visits and industry events.
• Manage existing customer accounts and develop long-term relationships.
• Understand customers' technical requirements and recommend equipment solutions.
• Prepare technical proposals, quotations and commercial offers.
• Collaborate with internal engineering, project, service and operations teams to address requirements.
• Review technical specifications, drawings and equipment requirements.
• Conduct product presentations and technical discussions with customers.
• Attend customer meetings, site visits, shipyard meetings and vessel visits as needed.
• Follow up on enquiries, quotations and tenders through order confirmation.
• Negotiate terms while maintaining pricing and margins.
• Monitor projects and orders to ensure timely delivery.
• Provide technical and commercial support during installation, commissioning and after-sales.
• Identify opportunities for spare parts, service, upgrades and replacement equipment.

About the Role

Our client is an established marine equipment provider, supplying technical equipment and solutions to shipowners, ship managers and shipyards across the maritime industry.

We are looking for a Sales Engineer who can combine strong technical knowledge with commercial and customer-facing skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new business, managing existing accounts and providing technical solutions based on the operational requirements of customers.

This role will suit a technically competent sales professional who understands how marine equipment is specified, supplied, installed and supported throughout the vessel lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and grow business with shipowners, ship managers, shipyards and marine companies.
• Identify new sales opportunities through market research, networking, customer visits and industry events.

• Understand customers' technical requirements and recommend suitable equipment and solutions.

• Work closely with internal engineering, project, service and operations teams to ensure customer requirements are properly addressed.
• Review technical specifications, drawings and equipment requirements where applicable.
• Conduct product presentations and technical discussions with customers.
• Participate in customer meetings, site visits, shipyard meetings and vessel visits when required.
• Follow up on enquiries, quotations and tenders through to order confirmation.
• Negotiate commercial terms while maintaining company pricing and margin objectives.
• Monitor projects and orders to ensure equipment is delivered according to agreed specifications and timelines.
• Provide technical and commercial support during installation, commissioning and after-sales activities.
• Identify opportunities for spare parts, service, upgrades and replacement equipment.
• Keep updated on market developments, competitor activities, vessel projects and newbuilding opportunities.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in technical sales, marine equipment sales, engineering sales or business development.
• Good understanding of the marine and shipping industry.
• Experience dealing with shipowners, ship managers or shipyards is highly advantageous.
• Able to understand technical specifications and translate customer requirements into suitable equipment solutions.
• Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
• Good communication and presentation skills.
• Comfortable conducting face-to-face meetings with customers and senior stakeholders.
• Willing to travel for customer visits, vessel visits, shipyards and regional business development activities.
• Self-motivated, commercially driven and able to work independently.
• Fresh graduate with Marine or Mechanical Engineering are highly encouraged to apply
