Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating workplace health and safety activities at construction sites. The role ensures that employees, workers, subcontractors, and site activities comply with company safety policies, project requirements, and applicable Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.
The Safety Coordinator will work closely with site supervisors, workers, subcontractors, and management to identify potential hazards, implement appropriate control measures, maintain safety standards, and promote a strong safety culture across the workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily workplace and site safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions, practices, and potential hazards.
- Ensure workers and subcontractors comply with company safety policies, Risk Assessments (RA), Safe Work Procedures (SWP), and PPE requirements.
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox meetings, daily safety briefings, and other safety-related training.
- Monitor site activities and ensure safe work practices are consistently followed.
- Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, including identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare and maintain incident reports, inspection reports, safety records, and other required documentation.
- Follow up on identified safety issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented and properly closed out.
- Assist in implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
- Support internal and external ISO 45001 audits and ensure relevant safety documentation and records are properly maintained.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Singapore Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and project-specific requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, workers, subcontractors, and management on workplace safety matters.
- Promote good housekeeping, proper PPE usage, safe working practices, and a positive safety culture.
- Assist in planning and conducting emergency preparedness activities, evacuation exercises, and other safety drills.
- Monitor workplace conditions and recommend improvements to enhance overall safety performance.
- Assist with safety campaigns, inspections, audits, and other workplace health and safety initiatives.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of safety-related records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Perform any other safety-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director or Management.
Requirements
- Possess a relevant Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) qualification or certification.
- Relevant construction safety experience is preferred.
- Good knowledge of construction hazards, Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures, PPE, and workplace safety practices.
- Familiarity with Singapore WSH requirements and applicable workplace safety regulations.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Good communication, interpersonal, reporting, and documentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.
- Able to work independently and conduct regular inspections at construction sites.
- Responsible, observant, proactive, and safety-conscious.
- Able to communicate effectively with workers, supervisors, subcontractors, and management.
- Strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
