SAMARITANS OF SINGAPORE LIMITED is seeking an Intern in the Strategy and Research department to support research on suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention. The role includes administrative work, data collection and cleaning, analysis, and literature reviews to support SOS programs and policies.

This hybrid, part-time internship requires a minimum of 20 hours per week and a minimum duration of 3 months.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in psychology, public health, social work, sociology, or related field.
  • Strong background in quantitative or qualitative research methods preferred.
  • CITI Certification for NCSS Ethics Review advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to convey complex information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews on suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention.
  • Collect and clean quantitative and qualitative data on youth and caregiver experiences of suicidality.
  • Participate in team meetings and discussions.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and summaries of research findings and other departmental activities.
  • Draft internal documents including meeting notes, SOPs, and research proposals.
  • Organize and maintain project documentation and departmental resources.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholder communications.
  • Support ad hoc projects and operational needs within Strategy & Research.

Job description

Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing confidential emotional support to individuals facing a crisis, thinking about or affected by suicide. Non-religious and not-for-profit, our work focuses on crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Intern in the Strategy and Research department to support our research initiatives on suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention. The intern will assist in administrative and coordination work, data collection and cleaning, analysis, and literature reviews to support SOS's programs and policies. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social science research and contribute to meaningful work that impacts lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews on topics related to suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention
  • Collect and clean quantitative and qualitative data on a project on youth and caregiver experiences of suicidality
  • Participate in team meetings and discussions
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and summaries of research findings and other activities/initiatives undertaken by the department
  • Assist in drafting internal documents, including meeting notes, SOPs, organisational learning, insights, research proposals, applications, recommendations, etc.
  • Organise and maintain project documentation and departmental resources
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholder communications
  • Support ad hoc projects and operational needs within the Strategy & Research department
Qualifications and Expectations
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in psychology, public health, social work, sociology, or a related field. Candidates with a strong academic background in quantitative or qualitative research methods are preferred.
  • Preferably has completed a CITI Certificate for the course NCSS Ethics Review Committee Applicants -SBE Research or an equivalent certification.
  • Passionate about mental health advocacy and suicide prevention.
  • Strong research skills, including experience with literature reviews, data collection, and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Sensitivity to issues related to mental health, suicide, and trauma, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in research.
