What role you will play in our team
In this role, you will support Gas & Power trading activities across regional and global energy markets, develop quantitative models, frameworks, and tools to help trading, risk management, and commercial optimization.
What you will do
- Research, develop, and maintain quantitative models supporting trading strategy development, valuation, portfolio optimization, and risk management across gas and power markets.
- Apply advanced statistical, econometric, and quantitative techniques to identify market opportunities, trading signals, and portfolio optimization strategies.
- Develop analytical frameworks that evaluate market fundamentals, price formation, supply and demand dynamics, volatility, and cross-commodity relationships.
- Partner closely with traders to identify, evaluate, and implement trading and hedging strategies.
- Analyze physical and financial optionality across gas, power, and related commodity markets, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
- Develop, validate, and maintain valuation models for assets, structured transactions, trading opportunities, and complex commercial exposures.
- Conduct statistical analysis, forecasting, scenario analysis, and back‑testing to evaluate trading strategies and improve predictive performance.
- Build and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, and quantitative infrastructure to improve trading efficiency, market understanding, and decision support.
- Support asset valuation and commercial analysis initiatives through quantitative modeling, opportunity assessment, and risk evaluation.
- Provide quantitative expertise on derivatives, structured products, portfolio optimization techniques, and risk management approaches.
- Collaborate with technology and data teams to develop scalable production‑ready quantitative solutions and analytics platforms.
- Evaluate model performance, conduct validation exercises, and implement enhancements to improve accuracy and commercial value.
- Remain current on developments in quantitative finance, machine learning, data science, and commodity market analytics to continually enhance capabilities.
- Communicate complex analytical findings, strategy performance, and model outputs to traders and stakeholders clearly and concisely.
- Contribute to the development of quantitative best practices, analytical methodologies, and model governance standards across the organization.
What you bring
- Master’s or PhD degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in energy trading, commodity trading, investment banking, hedge funds, asset management, or related quantitative trading environments.
- Strong quantitative and analytical problem‑solving skills with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex commercial and trading challenges.
- Experience developing quantitative models supporting trading strategy development, portfolio optimization, valuation, and risk management.
- Strong understanding of gas and power markets and related fundamentals, trading strategies, and risk management concepts.
- Knowledge of derivatives pricing, option theory, stochastic processes, statistical modeling, and quantitative finance methodologies.
- Experience with econometric techniques, time‑series analysis, forecasting, and machine learning applications within trading environments.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with quantitative analytics libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, StatsModels, and Scikit‑learn.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets to identify market opportunities and generate actionable business insights.
- Understanding of Monte Carlo simulation, optimization techniques, dynamic programming, and advanced statistical methods.
- Knowledge of portfolio analytics, market risk concepts, performance measurement, and quantitative strategy evaluation.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both quantitative and non‑quantitative stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced front‑office environment while managing multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting gas and power trading desks in a front‑office quantitative analytics capacity.
- Knowledge of regional and global gas, LNG, and power markets, including pricing mechanisms and trading dynamics.
- Experience developing algorithmic, systematic, or discretionary trading strategies within commodity or financial markets.
- Experience applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, or advanced data science techniques to market forecasting and trading strategy development.
- Knowledge of physical optionality, asset optimization, structured transactions, and commercial strategy evaluation.
- Experience with cloud‑based analytics platforms, distributed computing environments, and modern data architectures.
- Proficiency in software engineering best practices, including object‑oriented programming, version control, testing, and model deployment.
- Experience collaborating directly with traders and commercial stakeholders to deliver impactful trading and portfolio management solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to translate quantitative research into practical trading applications that create measurable commercial value.
