Job Purpose / Key Responsibilities

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting civil engineering projects by overseeing both the technical execution and project management aspects. This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of engineering plans, conducting site inspections, and ensuring construction works comply with project specifications and safety standards. In addition, the position includes preparing cost estimates, bills of quantities, and monitoring budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within cost. By integrating engineering expertise with project management and financial oversight, the Project Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the successful and cost-effective completion of projects in line with industry regulations and company standards.

Critical Work Function / Key Tasks
Project Engineering Design and Planning
  • Assist in the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure works comply with specifications, safety standards, and regulations.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve technical and project issues.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical documents, and project reports.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules to ensure timely delivery.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities, and support budget monitoring.
  • Track project progress and highlight risks or delays to the project team.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, quality standards, and company procedures.
  • Support project handover, including documentation and final inspections.
Quantity Estimation and Cost Management
  • Measure and calculate material quantities for construction works.
  • Calculate material requirements and liaise with internal team for accurate and timely material orders.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQ), and tender documents.
  • Assist in analyzing project costs and comparing them with initial budgets.
  • Monitor and track project expenses to ensure budget adherence.
Tender and Contract Administration
  • Assist in preparing tender documents, including BOQs, specifications, and schedules.
  • Evaluate contractor bids and provide recommendations to the project team.
  • Support in administering contracts, including preparing and reviewing variation orders and claims.
  • Ensure that all contract documentation is accurate and complete.
Project Documentation and Reporting
  • Prepare and maintain project-related documentation, such as progress reports and valuation certifications.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost control reports, including tracking of variations and adjustments.
  • Keep records of all site activities, including material usage, labour, and equipment.

Ad-hoc duties may be required on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Relevant experience in civil/construction projects preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and project management practices.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project/Primavera, and other engineering/project management software.
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities, and technical reports.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, workplace safety regulations, and industry standards.
Soft Skills
  • Good project coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to liaise with consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
