Job description

The Product Manager owns the product direction for a digital product across key user journeys, from requirements through to release, with accountability for the backlog and roadmap. The role focuses on translating user research, stakeholder and policy needs into deliverable outcomes, prioritising for impact and feasibility, and partnering closely with design and engineering to deliver and iterate using research and data—while ensuring clear stakeholder alignment and communication throughout delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the product backlog and roadmap end-to-end, ensuring items are clearly defined, prioritised, and aligned to the product’s key user journeys and intended outcomes
  • Translate user research insights, stakeholder needs, and policy requirements into well-structured product requirements (e.g., user stories, acceptance criteria) that engineering and design teams can execute on.
  • Drive prioritisation decisions by balancing user value, impact, delivery constraints, and dependencies; communicate trade-offs clearly to stakeholders
  • Ensure the product is designed for a broad range of users, accounting for different needs, contexts, and usage patterns (e.g., accessibility and inclusive design considerations)
  • Define success metrics (product and service KPIs), monitor performance post-release, and use data to guide iteration and continuous improvement
  • Plan and run discovery and validation activities (e.g., problem framing, hypothesis testing, prototyping feedback loops) and convert findings into actionable product improvements
  • Partner closely with designers, researchers, and engineers to take initiatives from concept through build, testing, release, and iteration—ensuring readiness for launch
  • Manage stakeholders across teams by providing clear updates on roadmap, progress, risks, and rationale for product decisions; align expectations and maintain momentum
Preferred Skills
  • Minimum 5 years in product management, with evidence of delivering/shipping digital products and learning/iterating from real-world usage
  • Advantage: experience delivering workflow/management-type systems (e.g., dashboards, records, scheduling) where usability, data quality, and operational fit are critical
  • Advantage: experience in government/public sector contexts, including navigating multi-stakeholder environments and policy-driven requirements
  • Strong product craft in requirements definition, backlog prioritisation, and roadmapping, including breaking down complex needs into deliverable increments
  • Strong ability to use data to inform decisions and measure outcomes, including defining metrics and interpreting product performance signals
  • Hands-on capability in discovery and user research—planning sessions, running research/validation, and translating findings into product direction and backlog changes
  • Familiarity with agile delivery and working in tight collaboration with design and engineering to deliver iteratively from concept to release
  • Clear communication of product direction and rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences, including explaining trade-offs and decision logic
  • Strong stakeholder management across teams to align priorities, resolve conflicts, and maintain shared understanding of goals and constraints
