Job summary

Direct Search Global is seeking a Vessel Manager to oversee the safe, reliable and cost‑effective management of Multipurpose Support Vessels (MPSVs) and Diving Support Vessels (DSVs). The role involves maintaining vessels, monitoring technical performance, budgets and operational readiness, and collaborating with vessel teams, clients and offshore project stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Marine Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chief Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency would be preferred.
• At least 3 years of shore‑based vessel management or technical superintendent experience in offshore sector.
• Seagoing experience on MPSVs/DSVs or comparable vessels, preferably as Chief Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of DP systems, diesel‑electric propulsion and offshore vessel equipment.
• Experience supporting diving-system interfaces and DSV operations would be advantageous.
• Proven experience managing dry‑dockings, budgets, repairs and service providers.
• Familiarity with class, flag/state and offshore client requirements.
• Strong planning, troubleshooting and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Willing to travel internationally and attend vessels, offshore locations and shipyards as required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily technical management and operational readiness of assigned MPSVs and DSVs.
• Provide guidance to Masters and vessel teams on maintenance and technical matters.
• Monitor propulsion, power generation, electrical, automation and auxiliary machinery performance.
• Coordinate maintenance and testing of DP systems, thrusters and equipment.
• Oversee vessel‑side support for diving systems with contractors and teams.
• Monitor condition and reliability of offshore cranes, winches and equipment.
• Ensure effective implementation of planned maintenance programmes and defect closure.
• Plan and manage dry‑dockings, repairs and surveys within budgets and schedules.
• Prepare and control vessel operating budgets and identify cost efficiencies.
• Coordinate procurement of spares, stores and technical services.
• Conduct vessel inspections and follow up on class, flag‑state, audit findings.
• Support project mobilisation/demobilisation and equipment integration.
• Investigate technical incidents and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Liaise with clients, classification societies, shipyards and manufacturers.
• Support selection and development of senior engineering personnel.
