Qualifications

  • Degree or relevant professional qualification in communications, marketing, research, data analytics or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience developing strategic communications plans and using research and data to improve decisions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional projects and work across organisational boundaries.
  • Strong analytical judgment and ability to handle complex or sensitive issues.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement mid- to long-term strategic communications and engagement plans aligned with MSF and government priorities.
  • Identify and assess communications risks and develop mitigation strategies for emerging issues.
  • Translate complex policies into clear narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Oversee forward communications planning with the ministry-wide calendar of announcements and events.
  • Synthesize findings from media monitoring and stakeholder feedback into actionable recommendations.
  • Lead qualitative and quantitative research to inform communications strategies.
  • Develop frameworks and training to strengthen strategic communications capabilities across MSF.

Job description

What the role is:

MSF works to build resilient individuals, strong families and a more caring society. You will help shape how MSF communicates its policies and priorities by anticipating emerging issues, translating evidence into strategy, and building public understanding and trust. The role spans strategic planning, communications research, issues management and capability building.

What you will be working on:

As part of the team advancing MSF’s communications outcomes, you will:

  • Develop and implement mid- to long-term strategic communications and engagement plans aligned with MSF and Whole-of-Government priorities.
  • Identify and assess communications risks, red-team major announcements and narratives, and develop mitigation strategies and response plans for emerging or sensitive or emerging issues.
  • Translate complex policies and issues into clear, relatable narratives and messages for different audiences.
  • Oversee MSF’s forward communications planning process, including the Ministry-wide calendar of announcements, events and engagements, to identify opportunities, manage competing priorities and support coordinated execution.
  • Synthesise findings from media monitoring, public sentiment, stakeholder feedback and communications research into actionable recommendations for policy communications, engagement and issues management.
  • Lead qualitative and quantitative research and analysis to inform communications and engagement strategies.
  • Develop practical frameworks, training and programmes to strengthen strategic communications capabilities across MSF.

Requirements
