Job summary

SsangYong Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd is seeking an experienced M&E Design Lead for a large hospital project in Singapore.

You will manage design activities across M&E disciplines, coordinate with architects and structural teams, and ensure compliant, integrated solutions from concept through completion. Responsibilities include BIM coordination, review of submissions, and on-site support to implement the design intent while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical, electrical or building services engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years' M&E design and construction experience, preferably with main contractor or D&B.
• Experience leading M&E design for large building projects, including hospital work.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) design activities for a large-scale hospital construction project.


• Review, coordinate and manage M&E design development from concept/design stage through construction and completion.


• Coordinate closely with the Architect, Civil & Structural consultants, M&E consultants, specialist consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure integrated design solutions.


• Review M&E drawings, specifications, calculations, technical submissions, shop drawings and material submissions.


• Ensure M&E designs comply with project requirements, Singapore codes, standards, statutory requirements and relevant authority requirements.


• Coordinate mechanical systems including HVAC, ACMV, chilled water, plumbing, sanitary, fire protection and other building services.


• Coordinate electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, ELV, emergency systems and other electrical building services.


• Manage M&E design interfaces with architectural, structural and other specialist works to identify and resolve clashes and coordination issues.


• Lead BIM and design coordination activities, including clash detection and resolution where applicable.


• Monitor design progress, deliverables and submission schedules to ensure compliance with the overall project programme.


• Review technical proposals and provide design solutions for site and construction issues.


• Attend design coordination, technical and project meetings with consultants, clients and relevant stakeholders.


• Coordinate responses to RFIs, technical queries and design changes.


• Assess the technical impact of design changes and coordinate necessary revisions to drawings and specifications.


• Work closely with the construction team to ensure M&E design intent is properly implemented on site.


• Monitor design quality and ensure that approved drawings and specifications are followed during construction.


• Support authority submissions, inspections, testing and commissioning requirements.


• Review M&E shop drawings and ensure proper coordination before construction and installation.


• Assist the Project Director/Project Manager in resolving major technical and design-related issues.


• Monitor M&E design risks and coordinate mitigation measures to minimise delays, rework and additional costs.


• Lead and mentor M&E engineers, coordinators and design personnel.


• Maintain proper records of design submissions, approvals, revisions and technical correspondence.

Job Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.


• Minimum 8 years of relevant M&E design and construction experience, preferably with a main contractor or Design & Build contractor.


• Proven experience managing M&E design for large-scale building projects.


• Hospital, healthcare, institutional or other complex building project experience will be an advantage.


• Strong knowledge of M&E systems, building services coordination and construction requirements.


• Good knowledge of Singapore building regulations, codes, standards and authority submission requirements.


• Experience in design coordination between M&E, architectural and structural disciplines.


• Familiarity with BIM/Revit, AutoCAD and M&E design coordination software.


• Experience in testing & commissioning and handover of M&E systems is advantageous.


• Strong project management, coordination and problem-solving skills.


• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate consultants, contractors, subcontractors and project stakeholders.


• Able to work independently and manage multiple design deliverables under tight project deadlines.
