Integrated into the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC) curriculum, CSL bridges academic learning with meaningful community service, aiming to cultivate socially responsible, empathetic, and civically engaged graduates. Through structured training, hands-on service with partner organizations, individual and team-based reflective learning, students develop vital skills such as active listening, advocacy, and project management. The initiative builds on NTU’s culture of volunteerism and reflects a broader educational vision that blends intellectual growth with real-world impact. The new initiative will be managed by the CSL office.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Facilitation: Conduct teaching and facilitation lessons for students through both face-to-face and virtual delivery, ensuring effective engagement and learning.
  • Course Planning and Development: Develop instructional plans (course outlines/syllabi) in the form of outcome-based teaching and learning (OBTL) that meet university standards and service partners’ program needs, while continuously designing, refining, and improving teaching plans, activities, assignments, and rubrics to enhance student learning.

Lead Instructors are expected to work closely with other instructors, service partner agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Conduct assessments, grade student reflection journals and midterm reports, provide timely feedback, and perform mark entry. Address student queries on academic and non-academic matters.
  • Resource Development: Create and maintain course materials and learning resources to support and enhance student learning experiences.
  • Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Provide regular updates on course performance and check-ins with students and their service supervisors at service sites for monitoring, reporting and strategic planning purposes.
  • Team Collaboration: Maintain a positive and supportive environment for all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Professional Conduct: Uphold values of integrity, care, respect, impact, service and partnership in all NTU activities.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Skilled in active and empathetic listening to understand perspectives and concerns.
  • Ability to encourage students to think critically about community issues and guide problem-solving and holistic understanding.
  • Ability to work with students as partners in the learning process and encourage peer collaboration and sustained volunteerism.
  • Skilled in guiding students’ thinking, questioning, discussion, and reflection on community issues, needs, and resolution.
  • Ability to design and manage class schedules, pre-service preparation and training, midterm review, post-service reflection and sharing, and track student progress with timely feedback.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, video platforms, and collaboration tools.
