Job summary

BACHY SOLETANCHE SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for tunnel construction projects in Singapore. You will manage TBMs, slurry and ventilation systems, and oversee safety-critical mechanical operations on site.

The role requires 4+ years in tunnel projects, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and hands-on ability to work in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in tunnel or underground construction projects.
• Minimum 4 years of experience handling TBM, micro TBM, pipe roofing, slurry management, and ventilation systems.
• Experience working in a compressed air environment.
• Knowledge of mechanical principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and instrumentation.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety standards.
• Hands-on, proactive, and able to work in a site-based, fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain mechanical equipment used in tunneling works, including TBMs, slurry systems, pumps, and compressors.
• Supervise tunnel and ground freezing procedures and activities.
• Monitor and execute tunnel methods and procedures.
• Coordinate routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, and troubleshooting to minimise downtime.
• Ensure availability of mechanical spare parts and tools for tunnel operations.
• Design, install, and maintain ventilation systems to ensure compliance with workplace safety and health standards.
• Monitor air quality and environmental conditions within the tunnel environment.
• Oversee slurry separation and handling systems, especially for mechanized tunnelling.
• Support in managing excavation systems, ensuring safe and stable face pressure is maintained during TBM operations.
• Implement and maintain mechanical instrumentation systems for monitoring ground movement, pressure, temperature, and vibration.
• Ensure calibration and data integrity of instruments used during tunnelling works.
• Ensure all mechanical systems and equipment meet statutory requirements and internal safety standards.
• Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews related to mechanical operations.
• Work closely with civil, structural, and geotechnical teams to coordinate work interfaces.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and technical documentation.
• Support commissioning and testing of mechanical systems.
• Respond to mechanical failures during operations and lead timely resolution.
• Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and tunnel efficiency.
