Job summary

National University Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform diagnostic procedures and support quality laboratory services. Responsibilities include handling specimens via Pneumatic Tube, operating LIS, sorting and dispatching samples, and performing basic processing with attention to safety and accuracy.

The role requires relevant lab experience where applicable, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in shifts.

Qualifications

• Higher NITEC required.
• Relevant clinical laboratory experience is an advantage.
• Good laboratory skills.
• No colour blindness.
• Basic computer skills.
• Service oriented and customer focused.
• Good team player and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive laboratory specimens via main Pneumatic Tube delivery system.
• Receive and reject unsuitable specimens for analysis.
• Operate the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for order entry, sample receipt and result query.
• Sort and dispatch samples to correct stations.
• Perform basic processing and sorting of samples (blood, urine, others).
• Manage sample movement to and from devices and stations as required.
• Respond to customer enquiries at Reception and escalate to appropriate personnel if needed.
• Perform basic rapid testing and alert staff to critical values.
• Undertake preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and report malfunctions.
• Notify staff when test kits or reagents should be reordered.
• Report adverse incidents to senior staff and perform shift duties as required.
• Stay updated with new instrumentation and procedures via training.
