Job summary

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL (SINGAPORE) PTE LTD is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to receive and process specimens via Pneumatic Tube, operate the LIS, and ensure accurate sorting and dispatch to the correct stations. You will perform basic processing of blood, urine and other body fluids, respond to enquiries, and monitor instrument maintenance.

Qualifications

• Higher NITEC in a relevant field or equivalent.
• Relevant clinical laboratory experience is an advantage.
• Good laboratory skills.
• No colour blindness.
• Basic computer skills.
• Service oriented and customer focused.
• Good team player with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive laboratory specimens through main Pneumatic Tube delivery system.
• Receive specimens and reject those unsuitable for analysis.
• Operate the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for order entry, sample receipt and result queries.
• Sort and arrange samples in collection bins for different divisions and dispatch to correct stations.
• Perform basic processing and sorting of specimens (blood, urine, and other body fluids).
• Manage sample movement to and from Sample Manager and analysers as required.
• Answer enquiries at Reception desk on sample movement and escalate when unclear.
• Perform basic rapid testing and alert staff to critical values.
• Undertake preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and report malfunctions.
• Notify staff when test kits or reagents should be reordered or supplies low.
• Report adverse incidents to senior staff and perform shift duties as required.
• Keep up-to-date with new instrumentation and procedures via training and education.
• Comply with Laboratory Safety Manual and accreditation requirements.
