Job Description
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical Data Centre Resident Engineer to join our team in Singapore. In this role, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of our data center infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of our critical systems. As a resident engineer, you will provide on‑site technical support and be the first point of contact for operational issues, working efficiently to resolve incidents and maintain our infrastructure at peak performance.
- Conduct regular physical inspections of IT infrastructure and equipment
- Monitor and report on the operational status of systems, servers, and network devices
- Identify and elevate hardware issues or anomalies to the appropriate technical teams
- Document findings and maintain accurate health check records
- Provide secure escort services for authorised personnel, vendors, and contractors within restricted data centre areas
- Verify access credentials and ensure compliance with security protocols
- Maintain visitor logs and ensure all escorted activities adhere to facility security policies
- Safely handle and relocate IT equipment, servers, and hardware within the data centre
- Coordinate with technical teams to ensure proper handling procedures
- Update asset inventory and configuration records following equipment moves
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and minimise operational disruption
- Perform tape backup operations, including loading, unloading, and storage of backup media
- Follow established backup schedules and procedures
- Verify backup completion and report any failures or issues
- Maintain secure storage and proper labelling of backup tapes
- Coordinate with off‑site storage vendors as required
- Respond to urgent on‑site support requests from remote technical teams
- Assist with KMS (Key Management System) access requests
- Support GDC (Government Data Centre) security seal requests and verification
- Manage rack access permissions and maintain the RE Rack Access List
- Perform other operational tasks as assigned to support data centre operations
Qualifications
- Proven experience in data center operations or IT infrastructure management
- Strong knowledge of server hardware, networking equipment, and data center architecture
- Proficiency with monitoring and alerting systems commonly used in data center environments
- Solid understanding of physical infrastructure components including cooling, power distribution, and backup systems
- Experience with incident response and troubleshooting methodologies
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with technical teams
- Preferred: ITIL certification or equivalent industry certification
- Preferred: Experience with data center management tools and software
- Preferred: Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 27001 or Uptime Institute best practices
- Preferred: Experience with virtualization platforms and cloud infrastructure
