Job summary

GOOGLE ASIA PACIFIC PTE. LTD. is seeking an Operations Technician to install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware and server software behind Google's infrastructure.

You will work on data center components, rack installations and network equipment, with opportunities to lead small projects and develop contingency plans. The role requires hands-on hardware experience, knowledge of Linux tools, and networking protocols, plus flexibility for non-standard shifts.

Qualifications

Job description

Google isn't just a software company. The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. A typical day involves manual movement and installation of racks, and while it can sometimes be physically demanding, you are excited to work with infrastructure that is at the cutting-edge of computer technology.

• Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or teams (e.g. Machine Learning platforms, network architecture).
• Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose moderately complex issues with equipment or infrastructure as they arise, and identify the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
• Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, and infrastructure based on identified issues with multiple solutions, independently.
• Independently execute advanced operational procedures as part of daily work activities and follow security policies and processes.
• Work shifts to meet evolving business needs and operational schedules.
• Collaborate with the partner teams (e.g., Program Managers, Data Center Operations, and Software and Hardware Engineers) to complete tasks, and to elevate and resolve defined problems.

Minimum qualifications

• Experience with assembly of computer systems component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
• Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
• Experience with networking protocols.
• Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience demonstrating proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and network issues using Linux tools (e.g., LPIC-1, CCNA, or equivalent industry certifications/experience).
• Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
• Experience in maintenance of server and storage systems.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including topology and protocols.
• Ability to communicate in English fluently to support client relationship management in this region.
