Job summary

Google's Hardware Operations team seeks an Operations Technician to install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain servers and related hardware and software in Google's data centers. You will handle complex components such as networks, routers, switches and other networking equipment, while participating in small projects and contingency planning.

You'll contribute to keeping Google's infrastructure at the cutting edge and ensure reliable, high-performance services for users worldwide

Qualifications

• Component-level hardware repair and troubleshooting experience on computer systems.
• Experience diagnosing OS, server hardware, or networking protocol issues.
• Ability to lift 23 kg and perform physical tasks (bending, kneeling, climbing).
• Willingness to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job description

Google will be prioritizing applicants who have a current right to work in Singapore, and do not require Google's sponsorship of a visa.

Minimum qualifications:

• Experience with assembly of computer systems component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
• Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting one of the following: operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
• Experience with networking protocols.
• Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience demonstrating proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and network issues using Linux tools (e.g., LPIC-1, CCNA, or equivalent industry certifications/experience).
• Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
• Experience in maintenance of server and storage systems.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including topology and protocols.
• Ability to communicate in English fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or teams (e.g. Machine Learning platforms, network architecture).
• Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose moderately complex issues with equipment or infrastructure as they arise, and identify the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
• Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, and infrastructure based on identified issues with multiple solutions, independently. Independently execute advanced operational procedures as part of daily work activities and follow security policies and processes.
• Shift work is required to meet evolving business needs and operational schedules.
• Collaborate with the partner teams (e.g., Program Managers, Data Center Operations, and Software and Hardware Engineers) to complete tasks, and to upscale and resolve defined problems.
