Role Overview
We are seeking a Commercial Executive to support the commercial activities of marine newbuilding projects. The successful candidate will assist with tenders, project costing, quotations, contract administration and client coordination from the initial enquiry through contract award and project delivery.
The role requires close collaboration with customers, ship designers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal Engineering, Procurement, Project and Finance teams to ensure proposals are commercially competitive and projects are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer enquiries, tender documents, technical specifications and commercial requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of tenders, quotations and commercial proposals.
- Develop project cost estimates covering materials, equipment, labour, subcontractors and other expenses.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Work with technical and project teams to confirm project scope, specifications and delivery schedules.
- Prepare commercial comparisons, pricing summaries and management-approval papers.
- Support contract negotiations covering pricing, payment terms, warranties, liquidated damages and delivery obligations.
- Review and administer newbuilding contracts, purchase orders and commercial correspondence.
- Monitor project budgets, costs, revenue, billing milestones and cash flow.
- Identify commercial risks, contractual deviations and potential cost overruns.
- Manage variation orders, additional work requests and associated commercial claims.
- Coordinate the timely submission of invoices and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Maintain accurate records of tenders, contracts, costings and project documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners.
- Support business-development activities and identify potential newbuilding opportunities.
- Prepare commercial reports and project-performance updates for management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, Business, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in commercial, contracts, tendering or project-costing roles within the marine, shipbuilding or offshore sector.
- Good understanding of vessel newbuilding, conversion or marine engineering projects.
- Familiarity with tender preparation, cost estimation and contract administration.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and project requirements.
- Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
- Good negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tenders and projects concurrently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and relevant enterprise or project-management systems.
