We are looking for an experienced Cloud Operations Engineer to support production AWS environments for government and enterprise customers. This role focuses on ensuring cloud services remain secure, stable, and highly available through proactive monitoring, incident management, and operational support.
The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve technical issues, maintain service levels, and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Incident Management
- Monitor, investigate, and resolve production incidents within agreed service levels.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and participate in post-incident reviews.
- Provide timely updates to stakeholders throughout the incident lifecycle.
Monitoring & Operations
- Monitor cloud infrastructure using observability and monitoring tools.
- Respond to alerts and participate in an on-call/standby support rotation.
- Review and improve alert configurations to reduce unnecessary notifications.
Cloud Operations
- Support day-to-day operations of AWS infrastructure, including:
- Amazon EC2
- Amazon S3
- Amazon RDS
- Amazon VPC
- IAM
- Elastic Load Balancers
- CloudWatch
- Perform patching, backup, restore, and routine operational activities.
- Execute infrastructure changes following established change management procedures.
Troubleshooting & Collaboration
- Work with application, network, security, and platform teams to troubleshoot production issues.
- Coordinate with specialist teams or cloud vendors when escalation is required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain operational documentation, knowledge articles, and standard operating procedures.
- Follow organizational security, governance, and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 3-4 years of experience supporting production AWS environments in a cloud operations or infrastructure support role.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services, including:
- EC2
- S3
- VPC
- IAM
- CloudWatch
- ELB
- RDS
- Experience with incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Experience supporting production environments with high availability requirements.
- Willingness to participate in shift and on-call support rotations.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Elastic APM) or similar monitoring platforms.
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate.
- Experience with ing or automation using Python or Bash.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana or Prometheus.
