Job summary

Mount Alvernia Hospital seeks a Clinical Coder to review medical records and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes, supporting hospital reporting, casemix/DRG, reimbursement and governance. You will ensure complete, consistent coding aligned with standards and work with clinicians to resolve ambiguities.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Health Information Management, Health Sciences, Nursing, Allied Health or related discipline.
• Clinical coding qualification/certification preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, clinical procedures and ICD-based coding systems.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in hospital information systems and Microsoft Office.
• Relevant clinical coding or healthcare experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and relevant clinical documentation.
• Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with approved coding standards.

• Clarify incomplete or ambiguous documentation with clinicians.
• Complete coding within required turnaround times.
• Perform coding validation and participate in coding audits.
• Support casemix/DRG, reimbursement, regulatory reporting and healthcare analytics.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection and hospital policies.
• Work with clinicians, Medical Records, Finance, Quality and other relevant departments.
• Keep updated on coding standards, regulations and clinical terminology.
• Support process improvement, reporting and clinical documentation education.
