Job summary

The National Cancer Centre Singapore Pte Ltd is hiring a Clinical Coder to review, analyse, and abstract complex clinical data from day surgery records. You will translate diagnoses and procedures into ICD-10-AM, DRG, and SCS codes, and coordinate with doctors and healthcare professionals on coding matters. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Nursing/Health Sciences or foreign medical degree with 2–4 years of coding experience.
• Certificate in Basic Coding Assessment (BCA) is preferred.
• Proficient in ICD-10-AM, DRG classification, and Singapore Coding Standards.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

About the Role

You will be responsible for reviewing, analysing, and abstracting complex clinical data from day surgery medical records. You will translate diagnosis and surgical procedures into accurate alphanumeric codes using ICD-10 Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) classification, and Singapore Coding Standards (SCS). You will also be liaising with doctors and other healthcare professionals on coding matters. Training will be provided according to the cases specific to NCCS.

The role ensures high data quality to support Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) casemix funding, Ministry of Health (MOH) regulatory reporting, internal clinical governance, and hospital reimbursement.

Some of the Key Responsibilities Include:

• Examine, review, and analyse patient medical records using healthcare information systems including OAS, 3M, SCM, and MOSAIQ to accurately identify diagnoses, procedures, treatments, and relevant clinical information.
• Accurately abstract and assign principal diagnosis, secondary diagnosis, and surgical/procedures for day surgery discharges using electronic health records.
• Conduct daily coding quality reviews and audits to ensure coding accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with established coding standards.
• Liaise closely with clinicians, medical officers, and allied health professionals to clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation affecting coding and accuracy and correct subvention.
• Ensure coding assignments are completed within established turnaround times, typically within 7 calendar days or upon receipt of all required clinical documentation and investigation results.
• Participate in internal and external coding audits, quality assurance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high coding standards.
• Monitor and maintain coding productivity and accuracy metrics in accordance with departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Maintain accurate daily coding records and prepare regular coding activity.

Job Requirements

• Minimum Diploma in Nursing, Health Sciences or equivalent, or Foreign Medical Degree with minimum 2 to 4 years relevant working experience as a Clinical Coder in Singapore healthcare institution (public or private hospital)
• Certificate in Basic Coding Assessment (BCA) given by the Ministry of Health or Trained and Certificate given by the Australian Coding Partners preferred
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and disease processes.
• Proficient in hospital electronic medical record (EMR) and patient administration systems (e.g., OAS, 3M Codefinder, Sunrose Clinical Manager [SCM])
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Meticulous with strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
