Job summary

National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) is seeking a Clinical Coder to accurately abstract and code diagnoses and procedures, liaising with doctors and healthcare professionals to ensure coding accuracy.

The role involves coding audits, quality assurance, and Mediclaim coding, with training provided. Minimum qualification is a Diploma in Nursing / Health Science or Medical Degree, plus 1–5 years’ experience. Proficiency in MS Office and ICD-10-AM coding is required.

Qualifications

• Min. Diploma in Nursing / Health Science or Medical Degree with 1–5 years’ relevant working experience as a Clinical Coder.
• ICD-10-AM Coding Certification or MOH Basic Coding Certification required.
• Meticulous with strong analytical, interpersonal, communication skills, and values teamwork.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite.
• Training will be provided according to NCCS cases.

Responsibilities

• Examine and analyse patient medical records to identify relevant diagnoses, treatments, and procedures
• Ensure that medical documentation is accurate, complete, and meets coding guidelines
• Assign appropriate alphanumeric codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services based on ICD-10 for procedures
• Adhere to coding standards, regulations, and compliance requirements with health insurance providers and government agencies
• Collaborate with physicians and nurses to clarify documentation and obtain additional information
• Participate in coding audits and quality assurance initiatives to ensure accuracy and integrity of coded data
• Assist in Mediclaim coding
• Any reasonable ad-hoc duties assigned

About the Role

As a Clinical Coder, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely abstraction and coding of diagnoses and procedures. You will also be involved in coding analysis, audits and reviews, as well as liaising with doctors and other healthcare professionals on coding matters. In addition, you will participate in continuing education and training for the new clinical coders or Mediclaim coders.

Some Key Responsibilities Include

• Examine and analyse patient medical records to identify relevant diagnoses, treatments, and procedures

• Ensure that medical documentation is accurate, complete, and meets coding guidelines

• Assign appropriate alphanumeric codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services based on international coding systems such as ICD-10 for procedures

• Adhere to coding standards, regulations, and compliance requirements, including those set by health insurance companies, government agencies, and healthcare organizations

• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to clarify documentation and obtain additional information when needed

• Participate in coding audits and quality assurance initiatives to ensure the accuracy and integrity of coded data

• Assist in Mediclaim coding

• Any reasonable ad-hoc duties assigned

Job Requirements

• Min. Diploma in Nursing / Health Science or any equivalent or Medical Degree with at least 1 to 5 years’ relevant working experience as a Clinical Coder

• ICD-10-AM Coding Certified or relevant medical coding experience in a hospital/Centre setting. Otherwise, will need to take Basic Coding Certification given by MOH

• Meticulous with strong analytical, interpersonal, communication skills, and values teamwork

• Proficient in MS Office Suite

• Training will be provided according to the cases specific to NCCS
