Responsibilities

• Define and execute Axion's technology strategy and roadmap across AI, data infrastructure and platforms.
• Lead design and development of AI-enabled solutions for drug development, regulatory and research workflows.
• Develop AI systems for knowledge-intensive processes including research analysis and regulatory documentation.
• Architect and integrate AI with client and partner systems.
• Establish scalable technology frameworks adaptable across projects and regulatory environments.

About the Role

Axion Biosciences is looking for a hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the development of technology and AI capabilities supporting drug development, regulatory workflows and research operations across mainland China and ASEAN.

The CTO will be responsible for shaping Axion's technology strategy, building scalable AI-enabled solutions, and translating complex research and regulatory workflows into practical technology applications for biotech and pharmaceutical clients.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a technology leader who enjoys building in an early-stage environment and working closely with scientific, regulatory and commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute Axion's overall technology strategy and roadmap, covering AI, software architecture, data infrastructure and technology platforms.
• Lead the design and development of AI-enabled solutions for drug development, regulatory and research workflows.
• Develop AI systems that can support complex knowledge-intensive processes, including research analysis, regulatory documentation, workflow automation and decision support.
• Architect and integrate AI solutions with relevant research, data and enterprise systems used by clients and partners.
• Establish scalable technology frameworks that can be adapted across different projects, clients and regulatory environments.
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of generative AI, machine learning and other emerging technologies relevant to life sciences and pharmaceutical workflows.
• Establish appropriate data, AI and technology governance practices, with emphasis on security, traceability, auditability and responsible use of AI.
• Work closely with scientific, regulatory and business teams to translate operational requirements into technology solutions.
• Lead technology partnerships and vendor selection, including build-vs-buy decisions and management of technology resources and expenditure.
• Represent Axion in relevant technology, life sciences and industry engagements, including discussions with clients, research partners and strategic stakeholders.
• Advise company leadership on technology opportunities, implementation priorities, delivery risks and resourcing requirements.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, AI, data or technology development, with experience in a senior technology leadership role.
• Experience building and deploying AI or software solutions in life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, research or other regulated environments.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML architectures, generative AI and modern software platform design.
• Experience working with complex datasets, knowledge-intensive workflows and enterprise system integrations.
• Familiarity with regulatory, clinical research, pharmaceutical or drug-development workflows is highly advantageous.
• Experience translating complex business or scientific requirements into scalable technology solutions.
• Strong understanding of data governance, information security, AI governance and technology risk management.
• Comfortable operating as a hands-on technology leader in an early-stage or growth-stage environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to scientific, regulatory, commercial and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working across multiple markets or international teams is an advantage.
