Direct Search Global is seeking a Chartering Executive to support the commercial employment and performance of dry-bulk vessels. You will source cargo opportunities, prepare voyage estimates, negotiate fixtures and coordinate with shipbrokers, charterers, vessel owners and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business or a related discipline.
• Approximately two to five years of experience in dry-bulk chartering, shipbroking or commercial vessel operations.
• Good understanding of dry-bulk markets, voyage calculations and Charter Party terms.
• Familiarity with vessel segments such as Handysize, Supramax, Ultramax, Panamax or Capesize would be advantageous.

• Source suitable cargoes and employment opportunities for dry-bulk vessels.
• Maintain relationships with charterers, shipbrokers, commodity traders, cargo owners and other industry stakeholders.
• Prepare voyage estimates covering freight income, bunker consumption, port costs, canal charges and other voyage expenses.
• Negotiate and conclude Voyage Charter, Time Charter Trip and period charter agreements.
• Review Charter Party terms, rider clauses, fixture recaps and commercial risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Source suitable cargoes and employment opportunities for dry-bulk vessels.
• Maintain relationships with charterers, shipbrokers, commodity traders, cargo owners and other industry stakeholders.
• Prepare voyage estimates covering freight income, bunker consumption, port costs, canal charges and other voyage expenses.
• Evaluate vessel and cargo suitability based on position, size, specifications and trading restrictions.
• Negotiate and conclude Voyage Charter, Time Charter Trip and period charter agreements.
• Review Charter Party terms, rider clauses, fixture recaps and commercial risks.
• Monitor dry-bulk freight markets, vessel positions, cargo movements and commodity developments.
• Maintain accurate records of enquiries, offers, counteroffers and completed fixtures.
• Coordinate with the operations team following fixture confirmation to ensure smooth voyage execution.
• Monitor voyage performance and profitability against approved estimates.
• Support laytime calculations, demurrage claims and other post-fixture commercial matters.
• Provide market intelligence and regular commercial updates to management.
• Identify and develop new customers, trade routes and business opportunities.

• Knowledge of major dry-bulk commodities and trade routes.
• Existing relationships with charterers, brokers, owners or cargo interests would be advantageous.
• Strong commercial awareness, negotiation and numerical skills.
• Able to respond promptly to changing market conditions and manage multiple enquiries.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and relevant shipping or voyage-management systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
