Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Source and charter dry bulk vessels via brokers or directly with owners.
• Prepare vessel cost estimates, voyage calculations and monthly costing reports.
• Analyse voyage performance and identify opportunities to improve commercial returns.
• Maintain and update shipping schedules based on vessel availability and customer requirements.
• Prepare vessel nominations for long-term tonnage and Contracts of Affreightment.
• Conduct counterparty and credit assessments for potential fixtures.
• Negotiate freight rates and terms in line with internal policies.
• Assess feasibility of vessel rerouting or deviation.
• Maintain ocean freight estimates for active trade routes.
• Prepare Charter Parties for fixtures concluded without broker involvement.
• Assist with freight-payment arrangements in coordination with finance teams.
• Liaise with customers regarding vessel acceptance, routing and cargo quantities.
• Work with vessel operations on stowage, routing and discharge requirements.
• Monitor dry bulk freight markets and prepare periodic market updates.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Chartering Coordinator to support the commercial employment and performance of dry bulk vessels. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Ocean Transportation, the successful candidate will assist with vessel sourcing, chartering, voyage analysis, scheduling and freight market reporting.

The role requires close coordination with brokers, vessel owners, customers, finance and operations teams to ensure cargo requirements are fulfilled safely, efficiently and within agreed cost and delivery targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Source, evaluate and charter suitable dry bulk vessels through shipbrokers or directly with vessel owners.


• Prepare vessel cost estimates, voyage calculations and monthly costing reports.


• Analyse voyage performance and identify opportunities to improve commercial returns.


• Maintain and update shipping schedules based on vessel availability and changing customer requirements.


• Prepare vessel nominations for long-term tonnage and Contracts of Affreightment.


• Conduct initial counterparty and credit assessments for potential fixtures.


• Negotiate freight rates and commercial terms in accordance with internal policies and approval procedures.


• Assess the commercial and operational feasibility of vessel rerouting or deviation.


• Maintain ocean freight estimates for active trade routes and destinations.


• Prepare Charter Parties for fixtures concluded without broker involvement and coordinate the approval process.


• Assist with freight-payment arrangements in coordination with vessel operations and finance teams.


• Liaise with customers regarding vessel acceptance, routing, arrival dates and cargo quantities.


• Work closely with vessel operations on stowage, loading, routing and discharge requirements.


• Monitor dry bulk freight markets, industry developments and relevant market indices.


• Prepare periodic market reports and commercial updates for management.


• Support the Senior Manager and wider transportation team as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Maritime Studies, Marine Transportation, Shipping or a related discipline.


• 3 to 5 years of experience in dry bulk chartering or shipbroking.


• Experience in vessel operations or ship agency would be advantageous.


• Good knowledge of chartering practices, Charter Party terms and dry bulk shipping markets.


• Familiarity with voyage calculations, freight market analysis and vessel scheduling.


• Strong commercial awareness, numerical ability and negotiation skills.


• Ability to communicate effectively with brokers, owners, customers and internal stakeholders.


• Capable of managing several priorities and responding promptly to changing operational requirements.


• Established relationships within the dry bulk shipping market would be an advantage.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
