Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Approximately three to five years of experience in physical commodity, petrochemical, chemical tanker or cargo operations.
• Experience handling aromatic products such as benzene, toluene or xylene preferred.
• Good understanding of chemical tanker operations, terminals and shipping documentation.

Responsibilities

• Manage physical cargo operations from contract confirmation through final delivery and settlement.
• Coordinate cargo nominations, vessel schedules, loading and discharge arrangements.
• Liaise with traders, suppliers, customers, shipowners, brokers, terminals, agents and inspectors.
• Review operational terms within sales, purchase and Charter Party agreements.
• Issue and monitor shipping instructions, documentary requirements and deadlines.
• Prepare and review bills of lading, certificates of quantity and quality, and other shipping documents.
• Monitor cargo specifications, tank suitability, compatibility and contamination risks.
• Coordinate product sampling, inspection and quality-control activities.
• Track vessel movements and provide timely updates to stakeholders.
• Monitor terminal inventory, cargo balances, loading quantities and delivery schedules.
• Manage delays, short loading, quantity differences and off-spec cargo issues.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Cargo Operator to manage the end-to-end execution of physical aromatic chemical cargoes. The successful candidate will work closely with traders, counterparties, vessel owners, terminals, agents, inspectors and internal support teams to ensure each shipment is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual requirements.

The role requires practical knowledge of chemical tanker operations and aromatic products such as benzene, toluene and xylene, together with strong coordination, documentation and problem-solving capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage physical cargo operations from contract confirmation through final delivery and settlement.
• Coordinate cargo nominations, vessel schedules, loading and discharge arrangements.
• Liaise with traders, suppliers, customers, shipowners, brokers, terminals, agents and inspectors.
• Review operational terms within sales, purchase and Charter Party agreements.
• Issue and monitor shipping instructions, documentary requirements and operational deadlines.
• Prepare and review bills of lading, certificates of quantity and quality, letters of indemnity, notices of readiness and other shipping documents.
• Monitor cargo specifications, tank suitability, compatibility and contamination risks.
• Coordinate product sampling, inspection and quality-control activities.
• Track vessel movements and provide timely updates to relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor terminal inventory, cargo balances, loading quantities and delivery schedules.
• Manage operational issues such as delays, short loading, quantity differences and off-specification cargoes.
• Review laytime calculations and support demurrage and claims handling.Coordinate invoicing, payment milestones, letters of credit and documentary submissions with Finance and Trade Finance teams.
• Ensure accurate and timely entry of operational information into trading and enterprise systems.
• Maintain complete records in accordance with internal control, compliance and audit requirements.
• Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve scheduling and strengthen cargo-execution processes.
• Provide operational support outside regular working hours when required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Approximately three to five years of experience in physical commodity, petrochemical, chemical tanker or cargo operations.
• Experience handling aromatic products such as benzene, toluene or xylene would be strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of chemical tanker operations, terminals and shipping documentation.
• Familiarity with Incoterms, Charter Party provisions, laytime and demurrage calculations.
• Knowledge of product quality, quantity control and inspection procedures.
• Experience with letters of credit and trade-finance documentation would be advantageous.
• Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage several cargoes simultaneously.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant trading or operational systems.
