About the role
The AV Manager / Assistant Manager leads Wesley Methodist Church's Audio Visual Department, ensuring the smooth delivery of audio, video, lighting, presentation, livestreaming, and technical support across worship services, ministry activities, and special events. The role combines hands on technical excellence with team leadership, overseeing AV staff and volunteers, managing vendors and projects, maintaining and upgrading AV systems, and ensuring the church's technology infrastructure effectively supports ministry needs. The AV Manager also oversees departmental planning, budgeting, procurement, and administrative processes to ensure reliable and future ready AV operations.
Key responsibilities
- Manage AV department resources to provide AV support worship services, conferences, camps, activities and events, whether in church or external premises, through assigning of AV staff, operating AV systems, working together with AV volunteers or engaging external AV freelancers
- Oversee AV projects including planning, budgeting, executing, installation, maintenance, upgrades; these may be standalone AV projects or part of larger renovation and other upgrading projects which involve AV
- Supervise staff in the AV department, assigning them work, as well as training and guiding them to perform their duties; and as assigned, to train and supervise volunteer teams on how to operate the AV equipment in a collaborative and skill team environment
- Facilitate the development of professional relationships with vendors, and procure new equipment in accordance with church processes and needs
- Perform proactive maintenance on the AV equipment and systems across the church to result in as little disruption as possible
- Provide input on improvements and new systems, equipment and processes that would benefit the church, its ministries, and activities
- Oversee and carry out the AV department budget and procurement processes in accordance with church policies; to develop and implement AV standard operation procedures to improve work processes

- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, ministry leaders and ability to take instructions
- Able to remain calm, think quickly, and troubleshoot effectively in high pressure live event environments
- Willingness to continually learn and develop technical and leadership competencies
- Experience in AV operations within a church, live production, events, or similar environment
- Experience serving in a large church environment with more than 2,000 members would be an advantage
- Audio: Digital Mixers (including Yamaha) and Dante Networking, Shure/Sennheiser wireless technology, in-ear monitoring systems, and recording and post-production
- Video: Blackmagic hardware and software, PTZ camera operation and basic AV over IP or NDI video networks
- Lighting: Use and programming of DMX-based systems
- Presentation: PowerPoint (minimum) and ProPresenter 7, Qlab
