The Architecture & Interior Technical Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise and support throughout the architectural and interior design process, from design development and documentation through construction and completion. The role focuses on ensuring that design proposals are technically feasible, properly detailed, coordinated with consultants and contractors, and compliant with applicable codes, regulations, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Design Development
- Develop and translate architectural and interior design concepts into practical, technically feasible solutions.
- Advise the design team on construction methods, materials, finishes, detailing, and technical requirements.
- Develop detailed construction details for architectural, interior, joinery, cabinetry, ceilings, wall systems, flooring, doors, and other built elements.
- Review design proposals for constructability, functionality, durability, maintenance, and cost implications.
- Identify potential technical issues at an early stage and propose appropriate solutions.
2. Architectural & Interior Documentation
- Prepare, review and coordinate detailed architectural and interior drawings, specifications, schedules and documentation.
- Produce detailed drawings suitable for tender, construction and authority submission where required.
- Ensure drawings accurately reflect the approved design intent and are sufficiently detailed for site execution.
- Coordinate plans, elevations, sections, details, reflected ceiling plans, finishes and joinery drawings.
- Review shop drawings, material submissions and samples against the design intent and technical requirements.
3. Technical Coordination
- Coordinate architectural and interior works with structural, M&E, lighting, plumbing, fire safety and other specialist consultants.
- Identify and resolve clashes between architectural, interior and engineering requirements.
- Attend technical coordination meetings and provide appropriate technical recommendations.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, fabricators and specialist subcontractors to clarify technical requirements and resolve construction issues.
4. Materials & Construction
- Research and recommend suitable materials, products, systems and construction methods.
- Review material samples, mock-ups and prototypes for technical suitability and compliance with the design.
- Advise on appropriate installation methods, interfaces and detailing.
- Review workmanship and construction quality where required and highlight discrepancies from approved drawings or specifications.
5. Authority & Regulatory Compliance
- Assist the project team in ensuring that architectural and interior works comply with relevant Singapore statutory requirements, codes, standards and authority guidelines.
- Support preparation and coordination of technical information required for authority submissions.
- Review proposed solutions against requirements from relevant authorities and agencies where applicable.
- Assist in resolving technical comments or requirements arising from authority submissions.
6. Site & Construction Support
- Conduct site inspections and technical reviews where required.
- Provide technical clarification and design information to contractors during construction.
- Review site conditions and propose practical solutions to unforeseen technical issues.
- Assist in reviewing variation proposals, alternative materials and contractor's technical submissions.
- Monitor the implementation of critical architectural and interior details to ensure consistency with the approved design.
7. Quality & Technical Standards
- Establish and maintain appropriate technical standards for architectural and interior documentation.
- Review drawings and documentation for accuracy, consistency and completeness before issue.
- Maintain proper records of technical decisions, drawing revisions, material approvals and project information.
- Assist in improving office technical standards, drawing templates, details, specifications and documentation procedures.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Technology, Building Technology or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of architectural and interior construction detailing.
- Good understanding of building materials, finishes, joinery and construction methods.
- Familiarity with Singapore building regulations, codes and authority requirements is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit; knowledge of other design and documentation software is advantageous.
- Good understanding of technical drawings, specifications and construction documentation.
- Ability to read and coordinate architectural, structural and M&E drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as coordinate effectively with designers, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
