Job summary

Airwallex is seeking an experienced Risk Operations Leader to head the APAC Merchant Risk Operations for Payments. You will own end-to-end performance, oversee monitoring workflows, and partner with legal, risk, and product teams to evolve tooling and AI-driven solutions.

You will champion automation while maintaining strong risk controls and drive key OKRs across a fast-growing fintech environment. The role requires 8+ years in payments/fintech with 3+ years in people management, and you should

Qualifications

• 8+ years in payments/fintech/acquiring with at least 3+ years people management
• Deep expertise in merchant risk: credit and fraud risk (reserves and exposure management) and brand risk (AUP and compliance)
• Proven track record managing senior ICs in multi-location teams
• Operate fast in ambiguity, set clear priorities, and drive outcomes in a fast-moving environment
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
• Strong analytical and data skills with dashboards and data tools
• Experience building or scaling risk operations in a global fintech or top-tier payments company
• Hands-on experience with risk tooling or automation including AI/LLMs in operations
• Mandarin language proficiency (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Lead APAC Merchant Risk Operations team for Payments
• Own end-to-end operational performance for APAC merchant risk operations (SLAs, quality, loss metrics, customer impact)
• Oversee design and execution of merchant monitoring, investigation and escalation workflows across APAC
• Partner with global legal, risk and compliance to implement new policies and control changes
• Work with Product and Engineering to evolve risk tooling (rules engines, case management, AI/LLM workflows)
• Champion automation and AI to reduce manual work and speed up decisions while maintaining control
• Drive key performance metrics (fraud ratio, chargeback ratio) in MRM to meet OKRs
• Proactive stakeholder management including risk, compliance, commercial, product
• Always challenge status quo and strive for operational excellence
