Job summary

Junyuan Secondary School seeks a Kitchen Assistant to support Food & Consumer Education and Nutrition & Food Science teachers with cooking practicals and ALP/GEAR-UP programmes.

You will prepare materials, maintain two cookery rooms, manage inventories, assist in receiving supplies, and support teachers during practical sessions while ensuring safety and cleanliness across facilities.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience as a Food & Nutrition Kitchen Assistant.
• Possess a valid WSQ Food Safety Level 1 certificate.
• Candidate should preferably be able to work well with teachers and students.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of materials for cookery lessons, practicals, assessments and ALP programmes.
• Daily maintenance, cleaning and sanitising of two cookery rooms with high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and safety.
• Two cookery rooms must be cleaned and tidied after every session and preparation room kept in a high state of cleanliness and safety.
• Maintain inventories of perishables and dry goods for classes.
• Assist in receiving food from vendors and filing all documents in cookery rooms.
• Standby during practical sessions to assist teachers and ensure equipment is ready.
• Check that kitchens are locked and that electricity and gas are turned off after class.

Option to renew: From 1 Jan 2028 to 31 Dec 2028

Personnel hours

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7.15am to 4.15pm, inclusive of the half-hour lunch break.
• Fridays: 7.15am to 3.45pm, inclusive of half hour lunch break.
• However, the Kitchen Assistant is expected to support the school in terms of school events and programmes that may take place beyond the usual 7.15am – 4.15pm time frame.
• Service is not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazette public holidays.

Requirements

The Personnel should preferably have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• At least 3 years of experience as a Food & Nutrition Kitchen Assistant
• Possess a valid Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1 certificate
• Important - The candidate should preferably be able to:

• -have good interpersonal skills and work well with teachers and students.

• -guide and support students patiently during practical lessons.
• -be meticulous in stock-taking, food preparation, housekeeping and cleaning.

Job Scopes：

The Services required are set out as follows:

Job purpose

To assist the Food and Consumer Education (FCE) and Nutrition and Food Science (NFS) teachers in their daily teaching and learning as well as to provide support for the school’s programmes i.e. Applied Learning Programmes (ALP), GEAR-UP that require cooking practicals or the use of the cookery rooms.

Duties

• Preparation of materials for cookery lessons, practicals, assessments and applied learning programmes.
• Daily maintenance, cleaning and sanitising of the two cookery rooms with high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and safety and security.
• Two cookery rooms must be cleaned and tidied after every session. Also to ensure the preparation room and 1 container cabin be in a high state of cleanliness, hygiene and safety and security.
• Provide update of perishables and dry goods to teachers ordering for the classes.
• Maintain and update of all inventories of kitchen equipment and utensils to teachers.
• Filing and compilation of all documents in the cookery rooms.
• Assist in receiving food from vendors.
• Report any facility issues or potential safety risks to the FCE/ NFS Coordinator
• Be on standby during practical session to assist FCE/NFS/ALP Teacher’s requests
• Help to check that kitchens are locked, electricity and gas power are turned off after class and end of the day.
• Perform any duties as assigned by the Craft and Tech department or school.
