Job summary

AstraZeneca plc is seeking a Senior Scientist for Analytical Method Development to support robust method development, sample preparation optimisation, and cleaning validation across global product development. You will work with formulation, manufacturing, quality, engineering, and external partners to deliver reliable data.

The role focuses on developing and transferring analytical methods, troubleshooting complex systems, and implementing automation to enhance analytical workflows within a GMP

Qualifications

• MSc, PhD, or equivalent in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline.
• Proven experience in analytical method development, optimisation, qualification, or validation in pharma or related environment.
• Practical experience with sample preparation techniques (extraction, dilution, filtration, purification).
• Strong knowledge of analytical techniques such as HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS, GC or related methodologies.
• Experience troubleshooting analytical methods and resolving issues (matrix effects, carryover, variability).
• Experience working with CROs or external laboratory partners.
• Strong scientific, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of GMP, data integrity, and analytical quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Sample preparation optimisation: Improve extraction, dilution, filtration, and purification procedures.
• Cleaning validation: Develop and validate analytical methods for cleaning verification, including residue recovery, swab or rinse sampling.
• Method development & validation: Design, develop, validate and transfer analytical methods
• Analytical troubleshooting: Provide expert analytical troubleshooting and scientific support across development programmes.
• CRO troubleshooting: Provide technical troubleshooting and scientific support to CROs.
• Automation and robotics: Implement and optimise automated and robotic solutions for sample preparation and workflows.
