A leading gaming company in Stockholm is seeking a Lighting Artist to enhance the visual experience of the Battlefield franchise. The successful candidate will collaborate with global teams, providing artistic direction and ensuring high-quality lighting in maps and cinematics. Applicants should have over three years of experience in AAA title development, a solid grasp of the technical aspects of real-time rendering engines, and a passion for lighting. Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience shipping AAA titles on current gen consoles.
  • Excellent knowledge of lighting, shading and PBR for realtime applications.
  • Strong artistic eye with understanding of lighting fundamentals.
  • Experience collaborating with external/co-development teams, with clear, proactive communication skills and a passion for shared success.
  • Solid grasp of the technical aspects of real-time rendering engines and experience working within performance constraints.
  • Familiarity with the technical considerations of multiplayer games, including optimization, collision, and layout.
  • Experience with reference capture for Lighting, including HDRI capture and calibration workflows and authoring of skydomes.
  • Knowledge of HDR colour grading approaches (e.g. DaVinci Resolve).
  • Experience leading a small team or an appetite to learn this.
  • A passion for the technical side of realtime lighting.
  • Knowledge of image editing or mastering software a bonus (e.g. Photoshop, Nuke, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with global co-development teams and provide visual briefs.
  • Guide external lighting teams to deliver high-quality lighting.
  • Identify high-impact areas of maps for lighting to improve quality.
  • Collaborate with other leads in the franchise to ensure pipelines and workflows are up to production standards.
  • Specify and work along with engine, graphics and tools teams to design and implement workflows, techniques and approaches to the lighting craft and set visual goals.
  • Provide guidance to team members to work through technical and creative solutions.
  • Communicate progress and raise any issues or proposed solutions with the art directors on the team.
  • Support the lighting team in providing guidance, developing, mentoring, and enhancing internal capabilities.
  • Work closely with Lead Lighters, Art Directors, Level Designers, and Tech teams to ensure lighting supports gameplay, mood, and performance needs.
  • Review maps and identify areas requiring focused effort and collaboration with external teams, especially where there are growth opportunities in delivering franchise-consistent and target quality.
  • Identify high-impact areas of maps where lighting can make the greatest difference, focusing your expertise to achieve target quality and project alignment.
  • Share knowledge generously, contribute to a positive, inclusive, and feedback-driven culture, and help elevate the work of those around you.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lighting Artist with a passion for world building and collaborative development. As a Lighting Artist on our Codevelopment Map Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the visual mood and quality of Battlefield’s environments, working closely with both internal and external partners. You’ll help establish shared visual goals, drive creative alignment, and ensure our maps deliver stunning, immersive experiences for players.

Responsibilities

Collaborate daily with global co-development teams, providing clear visual briefs, feedback, and support to align creative direction across studios.

Provide direction and guidance to our external lighting teams across levels and cinematics, to enable them to deliver high-quality lighting on time and to specification.

Help support other leads within the franchise to consider mission-critical lighting needs.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience shipping AAA titles on current gen5 consoles.

Excellent knowledge of lighting, shading and PBR for realtime applications, including optimisation for performance and quality (e.g. experience using UE4/5, Frostbite, Unity, and other game engines).

Strong artistic eye and ability to interpret reference and concept art, with a deep understanding of lighting fundamentals, color theory, materials, cinematography, and photography.

Experience collaborating with external/co-development teams, with clear, proactive communication skills and a passion for shared success.

Solid grasp of the technical aspects of real-time rendering engines and experience working within performance constraints.

Familiarity with the technical considerations of multiplayer games, including optimization, collision, and layout.

Experience with reference capture for Lighting, including HDRI capture and calibration workflows and authoring of skydomes.

Knowledge of HDR colour grading approaches (e.g. DaVinci Resolve).

Experience leading a small team or an appetite to learn this.
