Electronic Arts’ Battlefield Studios in Sweden (Stockholm/Gothenburg) is seeking a Technical Artist to support the Technical Art Director and the Runtime Performance Team. You will assist the art team with engine-level solutions, help define budgets for content, and report on project performance under direct supervision.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in technical art for games and AAA shipped titles is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of how art affects performance and rendering.
  • Understanding of content creation pipelines and optimization techniques.
  • Some scripting skills and familiarity with game tooling is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Report concerns about artistic goals vs. practical constraints.
  • Provide technical feedback on performance and budgets to project leaders.
  • Conduct in-depth performance evaluations of content and scenes with recommendations.
  • Offer technical expertise to help stakeholders make informed decisions.
  • Profile performance and triage bugs to stay on top of issues.
  • Define asset budgets and maintain technical constraints for assets.
  • Document technical processes across the project for art and tech teams.
  • Review content and the game to ensure consistency and quality.

The Challenge ahead

The Technical Artist will support the Technical Art Director with practical implementation and as part of our runtime Performance Team. He/she will help the wider art team with technical solutions in the engine, helping define budgets for content & reporting on project performance while answering to the Technical Art Director as the day-2-day manager.

Skills and Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in technical art for games. Prior experience as a high-level Technical Artist on a AAA game team and at least one AAA shipped title is highly desirable.
  • Has a strong understanding of how Art affects performance and rendering.
  • Has a strong understanding of content creation, 3Denginesand pipelines, and how to design andoptimizethem.
  • Comfortable profiling games with tools such as PIX/Razor or RenderDoc .
  • Good understanding of asset optimization challenges/techniques and content creation best practices
  • Has some understanding of code and at least basic skills in scripting.

  • Report and communicate any concernsregardinga potential mismatch between artistic goals and practical reality.
  • Provide technical feedback to project leaders on their performance and budgets .
  • Provide in-depth performance evaluations of content and scenes to stakeholders with recommended actions .

  • Performance profiling and review bugs to stay on top of any issues.

  • Provide content optimizations to ensure high quality across the project.
  • Document technical processes for art and technical artists project wide.
  • Review content and the game to ensure consistency, quality and compliance with performance goals.
