Job summary

Vend is seeking a Backend Engineer for our Discovery team, responsible for search and recommendations across our marketplaces. You’ll work on high-throughput search interfaces, embeddings pipelines, and productionizing ML models that power real-time discovery for millions of users.

You’ll collaborate with data scientists, shape platform APIs, and tackle hybrid search challenges, ensuring scalable, robust services across Nordics.

Qualifications

• Strong backend development experience.
• Proficient in JVM languages (Kotlin/Java).
• Experience collaborating with data scientists.
• Good communication in English across teams and countries.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve search services including indexing and APIs.
• Work on hybrid search, combining lexical and semantic retrieval.
• Develop recommendation systems used across verticals.
• Turn data science work into production systems with the team.
• Shape the platform direction and API abstractions for multiple verticals.
• Keep services running at Nordic marketplace scale.
