Job summary

The European Spallation Source invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Engineer in robotics and computer vision to develop an automated sample alignment system for the BEER instrument. This role blends robotics, vision, software integration, and neutron diffraction in a large international facility.

You will design architecture, lead integration with EPICS/NICOS, plan tests, document work, and contribute to scientific dissemination through publications and conferences.

Qualifications

• PhD or engineering degree with research or industrial experience.
• Strong background in robotics and computer vision.
• Hands-on software development in Python and C/C++.

Responsibilities

• Design system architecture for robot, cameras, and auxiliary equipment.
• Lead integration with EPICS/NICOS control systems.
• Define data handling interfaces and user workflows for automated alignment.
• Plan, test, commission, and validate the system.
• Write technical documentation.
