Job summary

European Spallation Source (ESS) invites applications for an Instrument Scientist for the HEIMDAL powder diffractometer, part of the Diffraction & Imaging Division. The role focuses on finalizing installation, commissioning, and delivering advanced neutron diffraction capabilities for a broad user community.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the instrument team, engage with partner institutions, and contribute to future instrument developments.

Qualifications

  • PhD in experimental physical sciences relevant to HEIMDAL, preferably energy or nanoscaled materials.
  • Practical experience in neutron powder diffraction.
  • Experience with GSAS-II, TOPAS, FullProf, Jana2006 and PDFgui for data analysis.
  • Independent research record with publications.

Responsibilities

  • Finalize installation and commissioning of the HEIMDAL instrument.
  • Collaborate with the core instrument team and partner institutions.
  • Deliver state-of-the-art capabilities for internal and external users.
  • Plan and implement instrument developments and upgrades; support users.
