Job summary

European Spallation Source ERIC in Lund, Sweden seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Engineer to develop automated sample alignment systems for the BEER instrument. The role combines robotics, computer vision, software development, and experimental work within the ASTRIND project.

You will design architecture, lead system integration with EPICS/NICOS, and plan testing and validation. Strong programming in Python/C++, ROS experience and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Requires PhD or engineering degree with relevant professional experience.
• Strong background in robotics, mechatronics, automatic control, or closely related field.
• Solid hands-on experience in robotics and computer vision, including system integration and motion control.
• Strong programming skills in Python and C/C++, Linux, and experience with ROS and version control.

Responsibilities

• Design the system architecture for robot, cameras, and auxiliary equipment, balancing performance and budget.
• Lead integration of the sample robot, cameras, and systems with EPICS and NICOS control environments.
• Define data handling and user interfaces for routine automated alignment during experiments.
• Plan and conduct testing, commissioning and validation of the system.
• Produce technical documentation.
