Job summary

The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) is driving an unprecedented demand for large‑scale AI data centers, creating new challenges for power supply, energy efficiency, resilience, and grid integration. Arctic and sub‑Arctic regions are becoming attractive locations for AI data centers due to their naturally cold climates, which significantly reduce cooling requirements. This project focuses on the design, modeling, control, and management of microgrids for AI data centers in a real‑world Arctic test environment funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and Arjeplog Municipality.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained no later than the employment decision.
  • Strong research expertise in microgrids, power systems, or power electronics.
  • Strong power electronic hardware skills or solid programming skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience with AI data centre power systems, microgrids, solid‑state transformers, DC‑DC converters, inverters, etc.
  • Experience in modelling and stability analysis.
  • Experience in hardware development or real‑time simulation.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with a specific focus on gender equality.
About the employment

The position is for up to two years. The role may be classified as security‑sensitive in accordance with the Swedish Protective Security Act. A security clearance will be required if applicable.
