Job description

Do you want to join us and create a more sustainable future?

EasyMining is looking for a Pilot Engineer in Uppsala who want to participate in the transition to a circular economy and help save the world's resources.

EasyMining is in the process of commercializing technologies based on its patented innovations and processes that recover clean commercial products using waste as raw material.

Our technologies include phosphorus recovery from ashes of incinerated sewage sludge, a process that can reduce the energy requirement for treating nitrogen-containing wastewater by recovering the nitrogen in form of commercial products, as well as a process for extraction of salts from fly ash from household waste incineration.

We are now looking for a new team member to support our team in designing, setting up, testing, and running pilots as well as maintaining pilot equipment.

Do you want to take part and influence the world?

Job brief

You will support our R&D team that works with developing and upscaling our processes.

The position is in our R&D Department in Uppsala and includes on-site work with setting up, optimization, calibration, and maintenance of our equipment as well as running of setups according to recipes.

For this, you will handle a variety of chemicals, which can be dangerous in different ways. Most commonly, they have either a very high or low pH and some emit dangerous fumes.

Our R&D facility designed for test and scale-up of chemical processes. We use equipment common in hydrometallurgy and chemical processes including leaching reactors, solid-liquid separation equipment (e.g. filter presses, belt filter, centrifuges), mixer-settlers and separation columns for solvent extraction, different kinds of pumps, evaporator etc. In addition, we maintain and operate a wide range of laboratory and analytical equipment.

Responsibilities

Design, set-up and execute pilot work with a safety-first perspective

Further information

EasyMining is an innovation company dedicated to closing nutrient cycles. We are owned by the Swedish environmental company

Ragn-Sells group since 2014. Ragn-Sells is operating in 5 countries with an annual turnover of above 800 M€ and approximately 2500 employees.

EasyMining is today employing over 60 people. The engineering and management office is located in the city center of Gothenburg (Gårda), the R&D is situated with office and laboratory facilities in Uppsala, and our German office is located in Berlin.

Deadline is September 20. Our selection process is continuous, and the advert may close before the recruitment process is completed if we have moved forward to the screening or interview phase.

Background

Recovery and recycling of nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium from society back to the agriculture is important for sustainability. Phosphorus and potassium are scarce resources in which EU is heavily dependent on virgin import while the manufacturing of mineral nitrogen fertilizers especially has a big negative climate impact. Today, biological methods are almost solely used for treating nitrogen containing wastewaters. These processes consume large amounts of energy due to aerification and use of fossil raw materials. In addition, the established processes to produce nitrogen fertilizers (from natural gas) lead to further emissions of greenhouse gases.

EasyMining has several patented processes that enable recovery of clean commercial products by using waste as raw materials.

Examples of our processes are phosphorus recovery from incinerated sewage sludge ashes (Ash2Phos) and nitrogen recovery (Project N) from nitrogen containing wastewater.

The Aqua2N technology enables to chemically both extract the nitrogen from sewage wastewater but also convert the extracted nitrogen to a commercial nitrogen fertilizer and thereby reduce carbon emissions.
