Job summary

Rovio is seeking a Lead Server Developer to drive the technical direction of our Angry Birds 2 backend from Stockholm. You will own backend strategy, guide architecture, and collaborate with the Technical Director to evolve the game backend for scale and reliability.

You will work on multi-tenant backend design, cloud infrastructure optimization, and high-traffic systems while mentoring teammates and shaping the technical roadmap across Rovio and SEGA. Relocation support available.

Qualifications

• 5+ to 10+ years of professional software development experience focusing on backend architecture.
• Experience with REST APIs, C# and ASP.NET (or Java/Golang) and building highly available services.
• Technical leadership experience initiating and driving key initiatives with business impact.
• Deep experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes (ECS/EKS, RDS), including security and high-traffic systems.
• Practical experience with concurrent and distributed systems.
• Strong architectural and design skills, applying SOLID, TDD, and clean architecture.
• Good SQL and NoSQL data modeling and database design.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Proactive and empathetic mindset with ability to build trust and drive consensus.
• Mentoring experience and a history of sharing knowledge.

Overview

Rovio, part of the SEGA family and world famous for Angry Birds, is looking for a Lead Server Developer to join the Angry Birds 2 team in Stockholm. You will be a key owner and driver for the technical direction of our server-side logic, working closely with our Technical Director to evolve the game backend.

Your mission is to help the game scale with new players and larger features. You will contribute to the codebase daily and bridge between the game team and central tech departments to ensure our backend is robust and innovative.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead on backend strategy, guiding the team to make the backend multi-tenant and support multiple games as a platform
• Drive architectural improvements and optimize cloud infrastructure
• Build modular, scalable architecture and advocate high-quality coding practices within the team
• Champion technical health and quality of the game, address technical debt, and ensure a high-performing player experience
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Rovio and SEGA to keep the tech stack forward-thinking and inclusive
• Prioritize work and plan roadmaps with feature teams to find win-win solutions for the game
• Foster a transparent, values-driven environment where every team member is heard and valued
